PAST SIMPLE VERSUS PAST CONTINUOUS.

Past Simple describes an action that took place in the past..


Almost always the time of the action is mentioned in the past: 5 minutes ago, yesterday, last
week/month/year, in 2010, etc Examples. He bought a shirt yesterday.
I had lunch at 1pm(now it is 4pm)
They stayed home last night.
Past Continuous describes an action in progress in the past, often interrupted by another
action.We translate it with ‘’imperfect’’ into Romanian.
We form it WAS/WERE + V+ing.Examples: I was driving home when I saw sth strange.
(conduceam masina spre casa cand am vazut ceva ciudat)
They were having dinner when the phone rang.(ei luau cina cand telefonul a sunat.)
