When starting to design your space, start by defining


where the light comes from, what are the areas where
you could add plants and what works for you, your
lifestyle and for your plants. Keep in mind:

Define areas and light requirements

 D efine areas with direct light, indirect light, semi-


shade, shade
 Observe the light situation over the course of a
full day (morning to evening, how does the light
change in the room)
 Define free space for plants and future plant growth
 Define areas for plant placement (groups of plants
vs. one bigger statement plant)
 Define areas on floor/shelves/sideboards/tables/
ceiling (hanging plants)
 Define needed accessories (plant stands, fixtures,
hanging pots, plant pots/saucers, baskets etc.)

 M ake a list of adequate plants for the previously


defined areas of your room/space
 Define the size of the plants (young plants vs. mature
bigger plants)
 Create plant groups for stylings according to their
native habitat and plant care requirements (light,
humidity, watering…)
 Consider your lifestyle when making a plant list for
shopping (how much time can I allocate to plant
care?)
