FUTURE OF MACHINE LEARNING IN HEALTHCARE

ABSTRACT
Machine learning (ML) and its applications in healthcare have gained a lot of attention. When enhanced
computational power is combined with big data, there is an opportunity to use ML algorithms to improve health
care. The generic purpose of this work is to help the researchers and practitioners to choose appropriate machine
learning algorithm in health care. Machine learning algorithms construct a remarkable contribution to predicting
diseases. Recent years have witnessed widespread adoption of machine learning (ML) techniques due to their
superior performance for a variety of healthcare applications ranging from the prediction of cardiac arrest from one-
dimensional heart signals to computer-aided diagnosis (CAD x) using multi-dimensional medical images. Supervised
learning is the type of ML that can be implemented to predict labeled data based on algorithms such as linear or
logistic regression, support vector machine, decision tree, LASSO regression, K Nearest Neighbor, and Naive Bayes
classifier. We generated a data table about machine learning algorithms accuracy for different diseases from
literature, then finished this process step by step and systematized this survey paper. The output of this work
produces a list of machine learning algorithms with accuracy for predicting diseases. This output will help the
researcher and practitioner to know about the contribution of machine learning algorithms in the field of healthcare
with the accuracy of algorithms together in one complete paper.

INTRODUCTION
The application of machine learning dates back to the 1950s when Alan Turing proposed the first machine that can
learn and become artificially intelligent. Since its advent, machine learning has been used in various applications,
ranging from security services through face detection to increasing efficiency and decreasing risk in public
transportation and recently in various aspects of healthcare and biotechnology. Undoubtedly, machine learning is
an enormously realistic technological application that operates with a big dataset. The contribution of machine
learning in medical science is undeniable in many fields.
