Q 1. Passage -based Questions

Animal husbandry is the scientific management of animal livestock. Although the word “animal “includes any
of the various organisms belonging to kingdom Animalia but
when we use it in animal husbandry,we mean only those domesticated animals which are reared mostly for
economic or for recreation purpose such as cattle, buffalo sheep ,goat pig camel ,horse etc It also includes
poultry farming and fisheries . Fisheries include , rearing catching ,selling ,etc of fishes ,mollusces and prawns,
etc .Since long time, animals like bees and silkworm havebeen used by humans. All the above mentioned
livestock has been used by human for products like milk ,eggs ,wool, silk honey etc

e) Why mitochondria is said to be power house of the cell?

Q 4 case study :
Dalton’s atomic theory suggested that the atom was indivisible and indestructible. But the discovery of
two fundamental particles (electrons and protons) inside the atom, led to the failure of this aspect of Dalton’s
atomic theory. It was then considered necessary to know how electrons and protons are arranged within an
atom. For explaining this, many scientists proposed various atomic models. J.J. Thomson was the first one to
propose a model for the structure of an atom.

J.J. Thomson (1856- 1940) was a British physicist, He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his
work on the discovery of electrons. Thomson proposed the model of an atom to be similar to that of a Christmas
pudding. The electrons, in a sphere of positive charge. We can also think of a watermelon, the positive charge in
the atom is spread all over like the red edible part of the watermelon, while the electrons are studded in the
positively charged sphere, like the seeds in the watermelon. Thomson proposed that: An atom consists of a
positively charged sphere and the electrons are embedded in it. The negative and positive charges are equal in
magnitude. So, the atom as a whole is electrically neutral.
(1) Identify the correct statement
Statement 1 – Dalton’s atomic theory suggested that the atom was indivisible and indestructible.
Statement 2 – Electrons and protons are present inside the atom.
Statement 3 – J.J. Thomson was the first one to propose a model for the structure of an atom.
Statement 4 – Protons are positively charged particle.
(a) Only 2 (c) Both 1 & 2
(b) Both 3 & 4 (d) All of the above
(2) According to Dalton’s Atomic Theory, matter consists of indivisible _______
(a) Molecules (c) Ions
(b) Atoms (d) Mixtures
(3) Who was the first to propose atomic theory?
(a) J.J. Thomson (c) E. Rutherford
(b) John Dalton (d) Neilsbhore
(4) “Atom is indivisible and indestructible” why this aspect of Dalton’s atomic theory leds to the failure?
(5) Explain the J.J. Thomson’s model for the structure of an atom?

Q5
Directions: In each of the following questions, a statement of Assertion is given, and a corresponding statement
of Reason is given just below it. Of the statements, given below, mark the correct answer as:
(a) Both assertion and reason are true, and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.
(b) Both assertion and reason are true, but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.
(c) Assertion is true, but reason is false.
(d) Assertion is false, but reason is true.

1. Assertion : A gas can easily be compressed by applying pressure.

Reason : Since the inter-particle spaces between gases are very large, they can decrease by applying pressure.

2.Assertion : Gases exert pressure on the walls of the container.

Reason : The intermolecular force of attraction is very strong in gas

3.Assertion : When a solid melts, its temperature remains the same.

Reason : The heat gets used up in changing the state by overcoming the forces of attraction between the
particles.

4.Assertion : Leucoplasts perform photosynthesis.
Reason : Chloroplasts store fats, starch and proteins.

5. Assertion : A cell swells up when present in a hypotonic solution.

Reason : More water molecules enter the cell than they leave.
