The New Seven Wonders, 2000 AD


In 2000, a Swiss foundation ran a campaign The Suez Canal The Mponeng Gold Mine elevator
to determine the new seven wonders of
the world. More than 100 million votes were
cast on the internet or by text messaging.
This was their list:

out about it. Share what you’ve learned with
the class. Discuss the list and compare it with The Sagrada Familia temple Sydney Opera House

Follow-up work
Choose one of the other places (modern wonders) from the list above OR
a different place you think should be considered a modern wonder and write
a text about it, similar to those in the magazine (around 150 words)

In the next lesson, share all the ideas (texts) that everyone in the class has
written. You could take it in turns to read out your texts. Collect a list of all
the ideas on the board and vote on a class list of “seven modern wonders of
the world”.
