Tips for IB French SL Individual Oral

15 minutes preparation

- Make a list of ideas.


- Put these ideas the order you will talk about them. Consider opening with
the strongest points.
- List any vocab you know you will use.
- Prepare a few sentences with complicated tenses (before you go in).
- It has to be analytical, so consider you how you can branch your ideas out.
- Anticipate any potential questions.

Presentation 4-5 mins

Introduction
- Brief explanation of the photo (1 minute to 90 seconds). Describe what is
going on.
- Where is it?
- Who can be seen?
- What is happening?
- How?
- Action?
- Topic?
- If possible, link your explanation to the topic or the subquestions.

Development
- What is the message of the image? What is the attention drawn to?
- Presentation of the topic in general. General knowledge of the issue? Facts,
statistics, links with culture, etc.
- You personal reaction to the issue. What do you personally think?
- How else could the image be interpreted? How else could an audience
interpret it?
- Does it link with any other topics?

Conclusion
- Synthesis of ideas.
- Judgement of the image. Does it accurately reflect the issue?

Discussion 5 mins
- If you get stuck, ask her to repeat/rephrase the question.
- Think before you answer.
- Use connectors, good vocab and good structures in your response.
- Listen to the questions carefully, especially in regard to tenses. It is a big
mistake to talk about the future of technology if the question was about
technology in the past!
- Don’t answer with yes or no.
