The Volley Tournament currently on stage at the Hutjena Oval was hosted by the ABG Volleyball

Organisation sponsored directly by Vodafone headed by the President for Volleyball Federation,
Joseph Mobisi under the (ABSF), Autonomous Bougainville Sports Foundation which is the
organization attached with the ABG Government through the Department of Community
Development.

According to the Sports Coordinator, Fabian Kotsin, sports is one of the programs for activity which
breaks through the Barriers of Different issues that basically helps mainly the Youths and the Citizens
here in Bougainville to come and work together as one through the spirit of sports.

He also Clarified that the Continuation from last year’s Preparation for Sports here in Bougainville,
the ABSF prepared to go for the PNG games, which volleyball was one of the Sports codes. As per
meetings held with the PNG games Council have been postponed from last year to this year January,
furthered postponed to June 2025. Now the name “PNG Games” have been changed to PNG Unity
Games and it will be hosted in Southern Highlands, Mendi.

Kotsin also stated that here in Bougainville with the ABSF they plan and look forward in getting the
other sports codes up and running.

This Volleyball Tournament was initiated to meet the requirement for ABSF in order to make
selection for Bougainville Team to part take in the PNG Unity Games. The interim Elected Chairman
for this Tournament Aliston Magehe said the sport of Volleyball never had a program since 2004 and
ABSF excluded it in the Sports program. With the Game that is on now is the greatest privilege as the
Sports Technical Officers formed the volleyball executive to get the sport Volleyball back in the
program.

Teams are from the North, Tinputz, Selau, Haku, Halia, Tsitalato and Buka Urban. Eight Teams for
Women that is qualified for Pool A and Pool B, Eleven Teams for men’s also qualified for Pool A and
Pool B totalling up to Nineteen teams. The tournament will be on for a week and predicted that the
finals should be on Friday.
