To Whom it May Concern,

I met Mary DiMaggio in January of 2024. Since that time I have had the opportunity to work with
Mary as her Program Supervisor at Boston College’s Lynch School of Education and Human
Development. In her role as a Teacher Candidate, Mary exhibits responsibility, a strong work
ethic, creativity, professionalism, a love of learning, and dedication to her students.

Mary seeks feedback and utilizes it promptly. As a supervisor, it is delightful to watch her
incorporate ideas we discuss before and after her lessons. Mary accurately reflects on the
pacing of activities and effectiveness of teaching strategies. She most often discovers her own
solutions in our post observation discussions. Mary plans thoroughly and uses technology
regularly to provide important visual aids for her students. She plans for and also makes
adjustments while teaching to meet the diverse needs of children. Her students know what she
expects of them if they finish early. They also know they will not be rushed or unable to
successfully complete their daily assignments.

Mary’s communication skills are strong. She responds kindly and sincerely to student comments
and questions. She quickly answers our work texts and confirms scheduled meetings. Her
lesson plans are well written and ready with ample time for review before her observations.
On one occasion when I made a mistake and showed up at the wrong time, Mary invited me to
stay to watch her lesson. When given the opportunity to count the visit as one of her
unannounced observations, Mary responded that she would like for me to come for the
unannounced lesson another time, because she wanted additional practice and feedback. To
further illustrate Mary’s character, her classroom Supervising Practitioner asked privately if she
wanted a hint as to when I’d be returning for her next unannounced observation. Mary replied
that she didn’t want to know. Mary’s commitment to challenge herself and learn in her full
practicum experience impresses me.

Mary’s potential serves as a gift to the children who will be in her care, and their families. With
her calm, patient, positive strengths and awareness, Mary is building her behavior management
skill set. Mary takes initiative, and for that her future colleagues and administrators will be highly
grateful. I highly recommend Mary DiMaggio. I wish that my children could have had her as a
teacher.
