Observing a Hay Infusion/ Pond water observation


What is a Hay infusion?
A hay infusion is a process of using pond water and hay in order to safely multiply microorganisms, so that they
can be studied under a microscope.

Instructions:

1. Perform a wet mount using a drop of water supplied by your teacher. Use the proper placement of the coverslip and
test tube in performing the wet mount.

2. Place the wet mount in the microscope. Focus the microscope using the LPO. After that, use the HPO to zoom in. Scan
the entirety of the wet mount so that you won’t miss any of the organisms there.

3.Try to find as many organisms as you can. Draw these on organisms on your notebook. You can also take pictures and
post them on your social media with the hashtag #microscopy. Make sure to tag your teacher.
