Welcome to El Puente Research Fellowship under El Centro de la Raza at UNM. First, we would
like to thank you for your commitment to students, in particular your mentee. As a Faculty
Mentor, you are part of the program’s Instructional Team, which is composed of the Program
Director, the Graduate Research Fellows and our invaluable Faculty Mentors (you).
El Puente Research Fellowship is meant to teach students the basic process of academic research
and prepare them to apply to graduate programs. As faculty mentors, you will help your mentee
navigate the research process and guide them through the practices and standards of your
discipline. Students are required to develop their own original research ideas; while the
Instructional Team is here to guide them, all works of authorship and research development are
the student's intellectual property. Listed below are the expectations for both the student and
mentor roles. Should you have any questions feel free to contact the Program Director, Alejandro
Mendiaz-Rivera, at 277-5020 or amendiaz@unm.edu.
