Studies were conducted during the rainy season ( kharif) of 1998 at Vikram Farm, Valvada,
Gujarat, India, to develop effective weed control measures in groundnut. Pre-emergence
application of alachlor at 1.5 kg a.i./ha, pendimethalin at 1.5 kg a.i./ha and fluchloralin as
pre-plant incorporated (PPI) at 1.5 kg a.i./ha with one hand weeding at 30 days after sowing
resulted in an effective level of weed control (which included control of Cyperus rotundus)
and an overall weed control efficiency of 93.31, 92.12 and 83.86% resulting in 38.8, 28.9 and
23.3% increased pod yield, respectively, compared to the unweeded control.
