the Watchmen Novel is a deeply written labour of love, intricately produced by everyone involved in
the project. It is a stunning read not for the faint of heart. If you go into it expecting some surface
level eye candy, you’ll be disappointed. It is dense and heavily thematic and deserves to be read with
your full attention. Even if you don’t like comics, I would recommend that you read this book. I
thought it would be a fun, pulpy kind of read, but found myself thinking about my place in the
world after I put it down each night. “Smartest man in the world” is quite the moniker, but fully
deserved for Adrian Veidt, or Ozymandias, who acts somewhat as the villain in the Watchmen
comics. He instigates a complex plot to do away with numerous vigilantes, even faking an
assassination attempt on himself to divert suspiscion. 4 out of 5 stars. I think Angela and Chief
Judd Have been fooling around for years. Her kids were definitely mixed. Sad to see Rorschach’s
message being misinterpreted and used so negatively The Watchmen movie, a faithful adaptation of
the seminal graphic novel created by writer Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, presents an alternate
reality set in a 1985 when Richard Nixon is still US President, and costumed heroes are outlawed as
vigilantes. Characters inhabiting this twilight world, writes Slant mag, are "all psychological misfits,
their perversions and sadism warped reflections of superhero virtues, and Snyder pulls few punches
in his depiction of them..." He becomes a tool for the US government, and is instrumental in the
country winning the Vietnam War (unlike in our own history). He also has a relationship with the
Silk Spectre, another costumed hero, with their relationship forming a large part of the narrative.
David Hayter, who teamed up with Zack Snyder for the big screen adaptation of the DC Comics
story, also revealed that Paul Greengrass was originally in line to direct a substantially different
movie before Snyder took the job. Storyline Jane on the be two : She ( her bridesmaids to the

able to put a novel down, take a break, and come back to it is one of the strengths of the medium.
Because there is no limit on time, a novel has the ability to convey as little or as much detail as
needed. While I churned through some chapters, others really slowed me down. By the time I
finished the book, the peaks and troughs in action had more or less hit a nice average. The reason it
took me longer in some parts was because of the intense characterisations. Everyone had their own
arc. Each character went on their own voyage of discovery and we as the reader was allowed to tag
along. We got to witness the slow decay of Jon Osterman into the dehumanised Dr. Manhattan. We
got to peak behind the curtain of The Comedian’s mask and feel his sadness. We got to relive the
traumatic upbringing of Laurie as her mother forces the mantle of Silk Spectre onto her. ‘Watchmen’:
The Graphic Novel and Movie The original Watchmen comics were unafraid to offer a bleak and
uncompromising view of recent political affairs, reflecting anxieties over nuclear warfare and police
brutality in a medium that (in the 1980s) still wasn’t afforded the seriousness and respect it deserved.
It wasn’t light reading, and you shouldn’t expect light watching either. I LOL'd, I cried. The people
in the theatre applauded at the end. I vowed to wait 24 hours before writing a review to see if my
euphoria passed. It hasn't. And the music, oh, the music. If you didn't grow up in the 60's and 70's,
you will surely miss some of the impact, but don't worry. Even a second hand recollection of such
iconic tunes will suffice. I am reminded of the painfully awful Across the Universe, which couldn't
even pull together a decent movie built around the greatest catalog in modern music. Watchmen does
it in spades. Release Date (Theaters): Mar 6, 2009 Wide But the real beauty of Watchmen is the
moral diversity of its superheroes. Each is flawed in different ways, allowing us to inhabit different
ethical perspectives, intellectually at least, and witness their consequences. Everything from
Rorshach's refusal to compromise, which makes him a doomed fugitive, to the ultimate compromise
envisioned by Ozymandias, who can dispassionately evaluate scenarios where millions of lives are
sacrificed, calls into question our most cherished beliefs. Where does it leave you? Well, that's for
you to decide. this movie is AMAZING! i love it. great review btw UK: Sky Atlantic / NOW TV

sure, fanboy fact-checkers, diligently scrutinizing Zack Snyder’s cinematic retelling of Alan Moore
and Dave Gibbons’s landmark graphic novel, will find something to complain about—say, the
general dispatching of Laurie Jupiter’s (Malin Åkerman) maternal-pressure backstory, the elimination
of Hollis Mason’s (Stephen McHattie) rollicking past and ignominious fate, or the absence of the
newsstand vendor and his assorted customers. In the final analysis, though, Snyder’s hotly
anticipated, excessively hyped film achieves a faithfulness to its original that devotees could have

that those determined to judge the film based solely on the degree of its correctness—or, as much of

graphic novel kicked ass too. I'm with Yawgy, I just couldn't get into it. In the time of remakes,

love it. great review btw Watchmen’s finest use of its calcified tableaus is its credit sequence, a
gorgeously wry, nostalgic, sepia-toned visual recap of America’s early fascination, and eventual
disillusionment, with its 1940s and 1970s eras of costumed crime-fighters. Set to Bob Dylan’s “The
Times, They Are A-Changin’,” this intro exhibits Snyder’s sturdy command of montage and flair for
crafting arresting visions of static, self-consciously digitized pop artifice. Still, as the film segues into
the story proper, his repeated attempts to freeze the action into facsimiles of Gibbons’s hand-drawn
panels becomes a meaningless, and increasingly tedious, device. Whereas transforming certain
flashbacks into virtual snapshots suggests how memories often crystallize into specific, defining
images, his indiscriminate employment of slow motion—and, in combat sequences, his slow-motion-
rubber-banding-into-fast-forward technique—drains it of any larger significance. Snyder, it
increasingly seems, simply thinks his Matrix-indebted mannerisms are super-cool-awesome, not
recognizing that they fail to convey the implied movement of Gibbons’s fixed illustrations, and have
the adverse effect of stifling both the film’s overarching thrust and his fight scenes’ intended, brutal
physicality. In terms of fidelity, Watchmen is frequently flawless. To be sure, fanboy fact-checkers,

This isn’t a movie for kids. It’s one where the characters philosophize about mankind throughout the
entire movie. About the darkness of human nature. Most of the Watchmen don’t seem to have much
fate in mankind. And here’s another reason it takes some time to get into. There are so many
Watchmen, who all have something to say. And they barely have enough time to do so. I have no
question the extended version of the movie will add to the experience. 2 hours and 40 minutes is just
enough to tell the story. The images used on this website have been provided by journalists and are

flawlessness of this sort has its pitfalls. There’s unavoidable irony in Snyder turning this distinctly
postmodern graphic novel—one that calls into question the motives of heroes and the efficacy of
heroism through the alternate-history tale of forced-into-retirement, wholly dysfunctional masked
avengers in a 1985 New York City on the brink of Cold War nuclear Armageddon—into a major
studio, mainstream-accessible blockbuster. Snyder’s narrative streamlining of Moore and Gibbons’s
genre classic, however, isn’t the primary issue, since the novel’s various textual modes (and their
structural evocation of time’s predestination) could never have been unerringly duplicated
cinematically. Nor is it his omissions, which don’t fatally detract from the story’s chief thematic
arguments and will, in any event, likely be rectified in part by the already-announced director’s cut.
Rather, it’s Snyder’s signature directorial style, a music-video aesthetic in which sleek, near-
stationary images are the norm and come at the expense of dramatic depth or momentum, that
remains his, and the film’s, most nagging inadequacy. As in the considerably inferior 300, Snyder’s
replication fetish proves at once peerless and hopeless, true to the letter but petrifying some of the
spirit of his source material. From the uniquely imaginative mind of writer/producer/director Baz
Luhrmann comes the new big screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, The Great Gatsby.
This rumor remains a rumor, but it’s an intriguing direction to go, and Irons certainly has the gravity
the role requires. Perhaps Ozymandias is still trying to bring about world peace by stoking fear of a
mutual enemy, which would explain the continued “squid drops.” In the graphic novel, the
superhero Rorschach writes the truth about Ozymandias in his journals before Dr. Manhattan kills
him, but if Veidt lived to see old age, we’re guessing no one has uncovered them yet. Upcoming film

Since 1998 This montage by itself is one of my favourite things about the film. Over the space of
four minutes, it establishes the setting of the story and catches us up on the alternate history of this
universe. While all of this backstory is rationed out through the chapters of the novel, here they are
bundled together for convenient digestion. The use of Bob Dylan also ties the story into the right
timeframe, adding to the strong sense of time and place. The rest of the soundtrack is pretty hit and
miss, though. While Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Nat King Cole, and Leonard Cohen create memorable
within the story, Watchmen would have benefited from only using this kind of music. When the
orchestra provided the backing track for most big fights, it lacked that comic book zip. Roundabout
by Yes or maybe Supertramp could’ve added something. The standard movie music fell flat and left
my mind to drift when it did play. 素材天下网图库图片为可放心商用图片,图片来源自素
