 Room rate could be typically defined as
the price or cost charged by the hotel or
lodging industry for overnight lodging.
Usually, the front office and sales and
marketing departments are responsible
for ensuring effective room rates
according to several market-sensitive
aspects. Room rate categories generally
correspond to the rooms available to sell
in the hotel. (eg: Suite, Deluxe, Premier,

1. Rack Rate for a hotel room is the published
rate for one night’s stay without any discounts or
premiums included. Rack rates are the highest
price that a hotel will charge for a room, and a
single hotel may offer a different rack rate for
each room type on the property.
2. Corporate or Commercial Rate is the amount
of money a hotel charges guests who are staying
there because they are traveling for business
reasons. It is usually less than the normal
amount.
3. ADHOC Rate code These are normally non-
standard rates that are offered as special one-
time rates for first-time corporates.
4. Group Rate, these are rates that are
offered to groups, meetings, and conventions
using the hotel for the functions.
5. Promotional rate codes are generally
offered during low occupancy periods to any
guest to promote occupancy.
6. Incentive Rate Code the rate offered to
individuals who belong to an association or
are holders of special membership cards or
credit cards.
7. Early-Bird Rate this type of rate is only
open X days before arrival.

8. Family Rate is a rate reserved for families
with children. Usually, these rates include
extra bed charges and may also include
some free add-on activities for children.
9. Package Rate rates that include a guest
room in combination with other available
events and activities.
10. Best Available Rates (BAR) These rate
codes are the lowest discounted rate
available for a day which can be offered to
the guest by the Reservation or Front desk
staff.
a. Dynamic Bar has different tiers and each
tier will be opened and closed according to
the occupancy of the hotel.
b. Daily Bar has a pre-defined daily room rate
regardless of room categories and
occupancy, these rates are set according to
the day of the week, as per the demand of
hotel rooms in the city, special days or
seasons, as per the room demand forecast
done by the hotel revenue manager.

zero room charge that is offered to special as a system requirement for PMSs as these

room charge which is used for room stays for type of rate code whose values are derived
hotel purpose. Eg. Manager or duty room, in- from another rate code or rate group.
