Exercise 1
1. I don’t think she’s worried about us. If she had been worried, she would have
phoned or something. *
2. I have an appointment at 3.30 tomorrow. If I manage to finish before 4.30, I will do
the shopping on my way back.

something.
** You should have used Zero conditional because we do not know which machine it
is talked about (indefinite article a is used) so this is a fact. If a machine is properly
maintained, it never fails.
*** You should have used Zero conditional because this is a personal characteristic (a
fact) Unless I have a problem, I never bother my friends.
**** You should have used II conditional because of the first sentence (Sorry- it’s
present), that means that the action is in present, so the conditional must be present
too. I would lend you the money you need if I had it.
***** Be careful with was/were. Even though it is third person singular, were is used.
If there were an empty seat, I would sit down.
Exercise 2
1. She would have never left her job if she had felt happy working there.
2. The workers would go on strike if they weren’t paid their salary.
3. They won’t come to the wedding if they don’t get the invitation.
4. If there weren’t so much traffic, they would get to the airport on time.

pets, they learn how to deal with responsibilities.
