 ABSTRACT
In the Present scenario there is a alarming need of sustainable development i.e.. development that
meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet
their own needs. And also today almost all countries are struggling to meet their power shortage
issues so An emerging notion states that there is a need to shift towards the unconventional
sources of energy therefore necessary policy frameworks are needed across nations which would
progressively phase out the usage of non-renewables and employ renewable energy for
sustainable development and energy production. Today most of the countries including India
have instructed their power sector to gradually shift their power generation portion by portion to
Renewable Energy sources by mandating some obligatory purchase by power sector entities
which is known as renewable purchase obligation (RPO). This Paper aims to capture the
effectiveness of the renewable purchase obligation on Sustainable development and energy
production. This study considered data of different states of the Indian power sector to calculate
the effectiveness of Renewable Purchase Obligation.

Keyword: Renewable purchase obligation, sustainable development, Energy Production.

Research Objective-
1- In this research the main objective to study the mechanism that how renewable purchase
obligation effective to attain the goal the sustainable development with completing the
demand of energy production.

Research question-
1- How Renewable purchase obligation meets both the demand of nation simultaneously
i.e… the demand of sustainable development and power shortage issues?
2- Whether there is a difficulties in compliance the RPO?
3- How some states in India apply RPO effectively?
