the attractions and learns about the local food. It’s a lot of fun!
Do you like Italian food? On a cooking holiday in Italy, your guide takes you shopping to buy the
ingredients for the day’s cooking lesson. Maybe you’ll need fresh vegetables, like cauliflower

When people arrive at the Carmine Street swimming pool in New York, they often stop to
look at the 51.8-metre-long mural. In the mural, people and fish are swimming and playing.
This cheerful work of art usually makes people smile. It’s by famous graffiti artist Keith Haring.
Haring was born in Pennsylvania, USA, in 1958. He learned how to draw cartoons from his
father. When he was 20, Haring moved to New York and began studying at the School of Visual
Arts (SVA). He tried different kinds of art, but he always preferred drawing. One day in 1980, he
saw an empty advertising space in a subway (underground) station. It was black and
he decided to draw some unusual people and animals on it in white. He liked the result.
Haring didn’t stop there. He drew hundreds of “subway drawings” in stations all over New York.
On some days, he drew 40 pictures. His imaginative drawings became famous.
Haring participated in many exhibitions. He also produced T-shirts, posters and toys with his
drawings. They were all very popular. Keith Haring died in 1990 at the age of 31, but
his extraordinary style of art still lives on.
