Experiments on the beam I

The following experiment investigates the measurement of force on a beam with strain gauges
connected in a full bridge circuit. Initially the offset will be calibrated for the bridge and then the static
characteristic determined. The diagram below shows the relevant circuit for the experiment.

Assemble the circuit as shown below.

Open Voltmeter A and set the following parameters:

Now open the instrumentation amplifier and perform an offset calibration on the amplifier if this
has not been done already. Afterwards, set the gain to 1000. Now adjust potentiometer P1 so
that the voltage at the output of the differential amplifier is ua = 0 V when the beam is not loaded.

Put a load on the beam using weights of 2, 5, 7, 10, 12, 15, 20, 50, 100 and 200 g (where
necessary the weights can be made up by combining individual weights). After adding each
weight, wait until the output of the differential amplifier becomes steady and then enter the
reading into the table below. When you have finished, switch the table into Chart mode to view
the characteristic for the sensor.

What can be said about the obtained characteristic's shape?

It is nearly constant.
It is nearly a straight line. Correct.
It is nearly exponential.

What is the characteristic's slope without the measuring amplifier's gain?

The slope is about 0.029_mV/g. Correct.
