The benefits of the month of Ramadan
and its fasting

All praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, the Creator of

the
universe, the Most Merciful, the Merciful.

Blessings and peace be upon his messenger Muhammed,

his family, his companions and all those who follow his path.
until the last day.

Know, dear Muslim, may Allah have mercy on you, that

Allah, the Exalted, out of His wisdom,
has placed creations above others in their preference; A few
Places over other places and a few months over others. And from
To them, He has separated the holy month of Ramadan from others
distinguished.
As we are on the edge of this blessed month, it is
therefore appropriate, on the basis of Qur'anic texts and prophetic
sayings about some of the benefits of this month.
and his fasting.

Of these advantages are:

1) Ramadan is a holy month, Allah
Exalted One, has in him the fasting of the faithful as a
Duty made.

(‫)َفَم ن َش ِهَد ِم نُك ُم الَّش ْه َر َفْلَيُص ْم ُه‬

“So whoever is present this month, let

them fast.”
(Surah al-Baqarah: 185)

The Prophet Muhammed ‫ ﷺ‬said:

،‫ َعْن َأِبي ِقَالَبَة‬، ‫ َعْن َأُّيوَب‬،‫ َقاَل َح َّد َثَنا َعْبُد اْلَو اِرِث‬، ‫َأْخ َبَر َنا ِبْش ُر ْبُن ِهَالٍل‬
‫ َقاَل َقاَل َرُس وُل ِهَّللا صلى هللا عليه وسلم " َأَتاُك ْم َر َم َض اُن‬،‫َعْن َأِبي ُهَرْيَر َة‬
‫َش ْهٌر ُم َباَر ٌك َفَر َض ُهَّللا َع َّز َو َج َّل َع َلْيُك ْم ِص َياَم ُه ُتْفَتُح ِفيِه َأْبَو اُب الَّس َم اِء‬
‫َو ُتْغَلُق ِفيِه َأْبَو اُب اْلَج ِح يِم َو ُتَغُّل ِفيِه َم َر َد ُة الَّش َياِط يِن ِهَّلِل ِفيِه َلْيَلٌة َخ ْيٌر ِم ْن‬
. " ‫َأْلِف َش ْه ٍر َم ْن ُح ِرَم َخ ْيَر َها َفَقْد ُح ِرَم‬

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah

said: 'There has come to you Ramadan, a blessed month, which
Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has enjoined you to fast. In it the
gates of heavens are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and
every devil is chained up. “1

2) It is the month in which the glorious

Qur'an reveals
the Word of God the Great, a blessed
Book, a guide for mankind.

Allah, the Exalted, says:

‫َش ْهُر َر َم َض اَن اَّلِذ ي ُأنِزَل ِفيِه اْلُقْر آُن ُهًد ى ِّللَّناِس َو َبِّيَناٍت ِّم َن اْلُهَد ٰى‬
‫َو اْلُفْر َقاِن‬

,,Ramaḍân is the month in which the Quran was

revealed as a guide for humanity with clear proofs
of guidance and the standard ˹to distinguish
between right and wrong˺.”
(Surah al-Baqarah: 185)

So this month is the month of the Qur'an. The reading of the

Qur'an in it is desirable, for this was also the tradition of
Jibril (Peace be upon him) when he came down every night during Ramadan and
the Qur'an to our Messenger Muhammed (Peace be upon him)
lectured.
 3) In this month is the night of Qadr,
the night that is more precious than a
thousand (1000) months.

Allah, the Exalted, says:

٣﴾ ‫﴿َلْيَلُة اْلَقْد ِر َخ ْيٌر ِّم ْن َأْلِف َش ْه ٍر‬

٤﴾ ‫﴿َتَنَّز ُل اْلَم اَل ِئَك ُة َو الُّر وُح ِفيَها ِبِإْذ ِن َرِّبِهم ِّم ن ُك ِّل َأْمٍر‬
٥﴾ ‫﴿َس اَل ٌم ِهَي َح َّتٰى َم ْط َلِع اْلَفْج ِر‬

The Night of Glory is better than a thousand

,,
months. That night the angels and the ˹holy˺ spirit
descend, by the permission of their Lord, for every
˹decreed˺ matter. It is all peace until the break of
dawn.“
(Surah al-Qadr: 3-5)

Concerning this night, the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said:

‫ِفيِه َلْيَلٌة َخ ْيٌر ِم ْن َأْلِف َش ْه ٍر َم ْن ُح ِرَم َخ ْيَر َها َفَقْد ُح ِرَم‬

In it Allah has a night which is better than a thousand months;
whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived .“2

 4) All past sins will be erased from
those who pray with faith and hope
during Ramadan (night prayer or
taraweeh).

Concerning this night, the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said:

." ‫" َم ْن َقاَم َر َم َض اَن ِإيَم اًنا َو اْح ِتَس اًبا ُغ ِفَر َلُه َم ا َتَقَّد َم ِم ْن َذ ْنِبِه‬

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Messenger (‫ )ﷺ‬said: "Whoever establishes prayers during
the nights of Ramadan faithfully out of sincere faith and hoping to
attain Allah's rewards (not for showing off), all his past sins will be
forgiven."3

5) In this month, the gates of paradise

and the gates of hellfire closed.

The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said:

." ‫ َو ُس ْلِس َلِت الَّش َياِط يُن‬، ‫ َو ُغ ِّلَقْت َأْبَو اُب َج َهَّنَم‬، ‫" ِإَذ ا َد َخ َل َش ْهُر َر َم َض اَن ُفِّتَح ْت َأْبَو اُب الَّس َم اِء‬
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger (‫ )ﷺ‬said, "When the
month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and
the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained."4

In a narration:
‫ُفِّتَح ْت َأْبَو اُب الَّس َم اِء‬

,,the gates of the heaven are opened”5

In a other narration:

‫ُفِّتَح ْت أْبَو اُب الَّرْح َم ِة‬

,,the gates of mercy will be opened"6

Another narration also says:

‫َو ُتَغُّل ِفيِه َم َر َد ُة الَّش َياِط يِن‬

,,every devil is chained up.“7

This is an honor for those who fast, where Allah, the Exalted, for
they are the gates of paradise, the gates of heaven and his
Mercy opens, as a reward and honor for them, and also
shows the value of the month of Ramadan, which is without a doubt one of the
best months.

6) Every day and night of Ramadan

Allah delivers
the exalted one a group of people
from hellfire.

The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said:

‫ِإَّن ِهَّلِل ُع َتَقاَء ِفي ُك ِّل َيْو ٍم َو َلْيَلٍة يعني في رمضان ِلُك ِّل َعْبٍد ِم ْنُهْم‬
‫َد ْع َو ٌة ُم ْس َتَج اَبٌة‬

,,Verily, Allah has people He redeems in every day and

night of Ramadan, and every servant among them has
a supplication that will be answered.“8

 7) Sincere fasting in the month of
Ramadan is a
Reason for forgiveness of previous
sins.

Our prophet Muhammed (Peace be Upon him) said:

‫َم ْن َص اَم َر َمَض اَن ِإيَم اًن ا َو اْح ِتَس اًب ا ُغ ِفَر َلُه َم ا َت َق َّد َم ِمْن َذ ْن ِبِه‬

,,Whoever fasted the month of Ramadan

out of sincere Faith (i.e. belief) and
hoping for a reward from Allah, then all
his past sins will be forgiven“9

“sincere faith” means: In Allah and his Prophet

believe and confirm the obligation of fasting.
“hoping” means: Looking for the reward with
the fasting.

 8) The bad breath of the fasting
person is better for Allah then
the smell of musk.

The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said:

‫َأ‬
‫ َو اَّلِذي َن ْف ِس ي ِبَي ِدِه َلُخ ُلوُف َفِم الَّص اِئِم ْط َيُب ِع ْن َد ِهَّللا َت َع اَلى ِمْن ِر يِح‬، ‫ِن‬
‫ َي ْت ُر ُك َط َع اَم ُه َو َش َر اَب ُه َو َش ْهَو َت ُه ِمْن َأْج ِلي‬، ‫اْلِم ْس ِك‬،

„By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, the

smell coming out from the mouth of a
fasting person is better in the sight of
Allah than the smell of musk.“10

9) The reward of fasting is multiplied

without limit,
Allah the Exalted has this from the
other deeds
differentiated.
The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said:
