Job Analysis
Instructions:

For the job description that you have specified in the previous CDL Workout, you were supposed to identify 5-6 portable skills
that a successful candidate must possess. The next step is to conduct a competency analysis and identify 2-3 underpinning
competency elements for each broad portable skill area. You should think about job duties/requirements, identify those
competency elements and enter them in the worksheet below. For example, if one of the broad skill areas were Written
Communication, corresponding competency elements could be “Writing Effective Business Letters” and “Conducting E-mail
Correspondence with Clients”. Each element should be briefly described, then critical tasks should be formulated that can be
used to evaluate candidates’ proficiency in performing the tasks. When evaluating candidates’ performance, you should come
up with a standard (benchmark); this can be an industry standard (if any), or a best practice. The final step is to decide on the
weight of each competency element (or the broad skill area). After the entire Worksheet is completed, you’ll know exactly how
your selection team will work with candidates. The best candidate will be the one who obtains the highest score.
