Title of the Document: Describe the Topic Being Researched

Sha, Liu, and Genqiang Li. “Analysis of the Effect of Music Therapy Interventions on College

Students with Excessive Anxiety.” Health Research Premium Collection, vol. 2023,

2023, pp.1-11. EBSCOhost, https://doi.org/10.1155/2023/3351918.

Throughout the years music has been the companion of mankind in each of its stages, but

what if it turned out to be not just a distraction, but rather a solution. Shu and Genqiang

state that music therapy can be the solution to the condition of excessive stress that

school students are exposed to on a daily basis. Such instruments as the piano among

other instruments of persuasion and melody help to regulate the symptoms caused by

stress, allowing the intervention of self-destructive consequences that the student may

bring about due to stress (2). Accordingly, Taiyun City University in Central China is

conducting a survey and analysis of its undergraduate students to see if there is a

possibility that music can minimize stress. The analysis will be carried out with the

division of two groups, on one side will be the students who will take the traditional

therapeutic treatment, while the remaining group will receive the musical treatment (Shu

and Genqiang, 2).

Apurv, Shirsat, et al. “Music Therapy in the Treatment of Dementia: A Review Article.” Cureus,

vol. 15, no. 3, 2023, pp.1-7. Health Research Premium Collection,

10.7759/cureus.36954.

The researchers make the point that using music therapy can be useful to treat some kinds

of afflictions related to dementia, a disease that causes unhealthy physical,

psychological, and social behaviors of individuals who may suffer from dementia and its

variables. Although nowadays dementia has no cure and researches all over the world

have been looking for a solution to this disease for a few decades, the authors of the

article, Shirsat Apurv; Jha, Roshan K; Verma Priyanshu have been looking for a new

kind of method to resolve this problem with music therapy. Even if music therapy is not

medicine based it does affect the behavior and responses of the brain and the

body/emotional related systems or abilities like speech and memory. For its uses, it is

said that music therapy can cure dementia related diseases and it is further explored in

this research with all of the data provided by it.

Radhakrishnan, Govindan, et al. “The Effectiveness of Nurses Implemented Music Add-on

Therapy in Children with Behavioral Problems.” Indian Journal of Psychological

Medicine, vol. 42, no. 3, 2020, pp.1-7. DOAJ Directory of Open Access Journals,

In India behavioral disorders in infants have been increasing causing several health

experts to look for solutions without the use of pharmaceuticals (2). As a result, therapy

experts are looking to music as a possible solution to help manage children's behavior.

Radhakrishnan et al. state that music intervenes and reduces the aggression that children

employ in their school days, and that these have positive changes. Some of the disorders
Cervantes 3

that interfere with children's performance and relationships are attention deficit

hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), and conduct

disorder (CD). The music is capable of calming children as well as beasts, such a term is

mentioned in the article to reflect on how powerful music is. This article helps my essay

as it mentions the different disorders that exist as well as how the treatment that was

implemented with music has brought positive changes in the attitude of the children.

Liebowitz, Marian. “Participatory Choral Music as a Means of Engagement in a Veterans’

Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Setting.” Arts and Health, vol. 7, no. 2, 2015,

pp.1-15. Taylor and Francis Journals Complete, 10.1080/17533015.2014.999246.

Music has been with humanity for centuries, and studies have demonstrated instrumental

development of human behavior, providing joy, and improvement in quality of life (2).

Some problems veterans have to deal with during their return to their homes are their

mental health. They don't know how to deal correctly, in this case during a chroral

composed of veterans, music helped them to feel a sense of belonging again as well as

the restoration of their substance dependency, mental health, and loneliness. Music helps

veterans to recover and overcome, so this study will evaluate with questions to each one

to reaffirm how music was a response for the veterans to their health. Liebowitz et al.

states music is a scape and a response for individuals with mental disabilities (2). The

article demonstrates improvement in mental health with veterans, and at the same time, it

explaint to us how music, specifically choral singing is an opportunity to empower

individuals.

During a hospital children were interviewed to recolect information about their

experience during their musical therapy. The researchers state music therapy has been fun

for children (Klyve, and Rolvsjord 2). Consequently, mention is made of how the

children have been developing, for example, their way of speaking and connecting words.

The way children make movements and gestures in order to express themselves shows

how music has increased since then. During the music therapies the children are honest in

confirming that such therapy was fun at every moment, because when they did the

activities, whether they were drawing or playing games, the music seemed to be an

incentive (9). The article demonstrates the impact the children had on the music

therapies, as well as describing how these therapies are not at all boring or tedious, but on

the contrary, it shows that they are sufficiently entertaining and rewarding, that even the

children use what they learn in their lives.

Beck, B. D, et al. “Music Therapy was Noninferior to Verbal Standard Treatment of

Traumatized Refugges in Menta: Results from a randomized clinical trial.” European

Journal Of Psychotraumatology, vol. 12, no. 1, 2021, pp. 1-16. Taylor & Francis

Journals Complete, https://doi.org/10.1080/20008198.2021.1930960.

During the article the researchers mention how music therapy helps to optimize the

disabilities of refugees. Because this group of individuals come to suffer from trauma and

psychological treatment is too low to be addressed. So music therapy is defined as "a

medical intervention that optimizes the individual's environment and life" (World

Federation of Music Therapy, 3). The results of this research were positive, since women
Cervantes 5

who suffered from domestic violence were able to reconcile sleep and reduce anxiety.

Other examples will be women sexually abused, where sessions were longer than the

anterior. individuals After all, researchers’ main point is to demonstrate musical therapy

is as good as the standard therapy. Therefore, music therapy is capable of coping with the

conditions of individuals, without the need for drugs (Beck, et al). In summary, the article

demonstrates that individuals, or in this case refugees, are able to have positive changes

through the music therapy provided during the research.

In this article, the researchers investigated how music has a very huge effect on

recovery processes of people with mental illnesses. The purpose of this research is to

show how its patients improved the way their daily actions were released and how music

helped to ease the way these actions were done. The emotions transmitted to the patients

were pleasant and improved the lives of the people with these mental illnesses. The

patients/participants of this research are from a Norwegian mental hospital. All

participants had improvements related to their mental illness impediments when music or

music related activities happened. Being involved in music-like activities like theater,

orchestras, or chorus helps these people with focus and give some sense of fulfillment to

the participants of the research. Experimenting with these types of therapies or activities

can be a new and innovative way of improving the way of life of thousands of people

who suffer from mental illness across the world and it does not even need medical

intervention besides the music therapy.

The general surgical department treats individuals with pancreatic problems, thyroid

problems, tumors, trauma, among other life-threatening diseases. During the surgical

process, patients are subjected to a cycle of stress. Logically, this causes anxiety and

uncertainty in patients that will be of great concern to the doctors. The reason for this is

that patients may be at risk of endangering their lives with their attitude (Liang, et al, 2).

It is necessary for the patient to remain calm at all times so that their treatment and

surgery will not be affected. According to the researchers, they state that music was the

indicated treatment to take care of the patient's health (2). Therefore, the article makes

use of music to bring the patients' behavior to moderate levels so doctors can proceed

with the surgical treatment. Even though musical therapy is not the conventional

treatment, with the passing of the years more doctors have been implemented to patients

Ensemble is a music therapy program that aims to develop the school skills of preschool

children. In order to give children the confidence to speak, the program integrates music

into their practice so that children are motivated emotionally, socially, and personally. As

a result, children develop their values and purpose, not to mention their visual and

intrapersonal skills. Children become more independent and satisfied each month, so

their skills are not dulled, and they put into practice what they have learned by listening

to the problems and concerns of others. The rearchers claim that music stimulates their

cognitive response, as well as their environment. Therefore, the disabilities that the

children came to suffer from disappear over time. The article, therefore, is a clear

example that if music therapy is put into practice at an early age, children can develop

their social skills leaving behind their insecurities, difficulties, disorders, and

deficiencies.
