OGL 360: Assessment of Leadership
Professor Aurora
Fall 2023
By Cynthia M Gonzalez
Part I: Where You Want to Be
My goal in life is to be a good person, I want to be financially successful, to succeed
in my career, but I do not want to do it at the expense of my morals and values.
I.1. What Leadership
Means to You
• My Still life included a tree, headphones, glasses, a
compass, and a book. There are a few things that stayed
the same in my perspective. For example the headphones
and a leader being able to communicate effectively. The
compass and a leader having a moral compass and
wanting to always to the right thing. The biggest change
in my still life was how I view the tree, although I do still
see it as growth I’ve expanded my view. It also symbolizes
being unwavering, I think of my little tree and the
massive monsoon storms it survived. It also reminded me
that some support may be needed to be the leader I
want to be. And lastly that like trees we need to take care
of ourselves, trees need good fertilizer, water, and
sunshine to grow, If I want to be an effective leader I
need to remember to care for myself and ask for help in
order to grow.
I.2. Core Values

When I reflect on my still life, I think of the

My top five values are: Morality- Doing the
type of leader I want to be. When I think of
right thing, Security- feeling safe to thrive
my values I think of the type of person I
and make mistakes, Compassion- giving

people understanding and grace , a good
being a safe space, having a moral compass,
Communicator- the ability to not only give
always growing and evolving ad a person
good directions and advice but also the
and leader. I feel this is because in my view
ability to listen, and willing to grow and

a good person first.
I.3. Future Vision
• My goal in the future above all else
finding my balance, to find success
financially, and to be a project manager in
business banking. I want to further my
education, buy a second home, and spend
more time and energy traveling with my
family.
Part II: Where You Are
Currently I am in process of finishing my bachelor's degree, I am in a new-role at my
job, although not entry level a few roles away from management. Financial I am
comfortable but not where I want to be in 5-10 years. I have some balance in my
life, but need to spend more time traveling and saving for a second home.
II.1. Leadership Practices Inventory
Assessment

• Strengths: Compassionate, Collaborative, Good listener- slow to speak, adaptable

• Weakness: Avoidant, non-confrontational,
II.2. Limiting Assumptions
• I feel the biggest assumption I have that limits my effectiveness is the
feeling that I do not belong or am not good enough. I think this holds
me back from taking risks with jobs I apply for or taking leadership roles
in projects. I am not the most energetic, charismatic, or assertive person. I
often assume because I lack these characteristics I will not be a good
leader, or be taken seriously as a leader. I feel this has come from the way
we learn about different leaders in school. They are always loud, and
charismatic, can move and motivate people, and people tend to gravitate
towards them.. It seems like in our society these types of leaders are well-
known and well-respected. This makes me feel like an imposter when I
am in leadership roles, almost like playing dress-up. However, I would say
that after watching Schindelr's list a few weeks ago, Itzhak Stern was a
silent leader, he was able to do a lot, make changes, and motivate
people. I think our society tends to commend one type of leadership, and
other types of leadership don't get as much acknowledgment. This type
of assumption continues to hold me back from taking leadership-type
risks and doing more within my career.

• If I did not have this assumption, I think I would be a more active person
in Latino organizations at my job.
• My biggest strength I feel
is I do try to have
constant contact with
most people in my life. I
value conversations and
time spent with them.
My biggest weakness,
II.3. Sociogram outside of my family my
circle is very small, I am
not very trusting of
people. It takes a lot for
people to enter my inner
circle and be a close
friend.
III.4. What Matters
Most to You
• My family matters the most to me especially my
kids
• My inner peace- I don’t like drama or stressing I
work hard to not feel anxious about different
thing about life.
• Learning, whether it be for my education, my
job, parenting, being a better member in my
community, or expanding my cultural mindset.
Part III: Getting from Where You
Are to Where You Want to Be
At the moment I am in school this will allow me to have the job I am aiming for. I
am also saving and investing my money for the future, both for a new home and to
travel more. And Finally I am in therapy and this allows me to address me anxieties,
as well as find ways to self-care and get rest.
III.1. Competency Development Strategy

1. Therapy- self care is crucial to be able to achieve both

personal and professional goals.

2. School- finishing this degree and getting my masters will

be crucial for my educational and professional goals.

3. Time-management- I need to plan out, budget and execute

more travel with my kids and just family time in general.
III.2. Coaching I have found their unique perspective the
most helpful. Sometimes I feel like my
Relationship(s) perspective makes the most sense. To an
extent that is true, it makes the most
amount of sense to me. However, I am
able to see and understand more about
myself from others perspectives.

I like the constant check-ins, sometimes

there was a topic, sometimes it was just a
nice chat, but being in constant contact
made me more comfortable and reseptive
to feedback.
III.3. Action Plan Exercise more, more
play/family time/ therapy/ sign
up for different groups to
network at work, and spend
less- actually stick to a budget.

I use a planner for work, life

and school, I feel I could in
regular self-check in’s to see
how I am doing.

Part IV: Overall
Conclusion
Overall, this class was not what I expected it was very
different from any of my other online courses. However, I
found it to be one of if not my most fun class. I feel like I
learned so much about myself my goals, my leadership style,
and how to achieve these goals in the future. I am excited to
continue to implement everything I learned from this course
and my peers in the future.
