Part I: Where You Want to Be
I would love to be a leader and a teacher of new and adaptable ways to lead through
ambiguity and diversity. I feel that I have such a vast experience working with others and
leading teams through difficult situations while maintaining a positive mindset and doing
so in an enjoyable and comfortable atmosphere and work environment. With these skills
and experiences, I’d want to help guide and teach people the value of understanding and
adapting in the workplace. Seeing as how this is a broad and somewhat vague goal, I feel
as though this could be applied to many different work scenarios. I am excited for my
future in leadership and eager to apply all of the knowledge I have absorbed throughout
my educational experience.
I.1. What Leadership
Means to You
• Leadership is a responsibility to those you choose to
make an impact on and lead to a better and successful
future.
• I think the biggest change has been a more detailed
perspective or shall I say, a more detailed coaching
aspect that has helped me have multiple perspectives
on leadership and the applicability of the leadership
styles in a day-to-day work environment.
• The appreciation for this individual connection and
personalized coaching has brought about a new
expectancy when moving forward with my educational
journey. Not only will I want this to be applied to more
aspects of my learning, but I will try to incorporate this
into a work environment and implement a leadership
style to parallel the benefits of a one-on-one leadership
approach.
I.2. Core Values
• - Setting the mood and tone is a strong value of mine. The work environment is already a bit • - Rollerblade, representing the fun and
tense and some of the partners (coworkers) aren’t in the best of spirits while working. I feel energetic aspect of my leadership.
that with the appropriate mood and tone, the work environment can be genuine and
provide a comfortable space to work. The example that most comes to mind is when I
walked into a shift at 6:30am and no one was smiling, and I was barely acknowledged. I
walked right past everyone and started pouring Nitro cold brew shots for everyone! I started
singing the “Shots” song and the rest of the day was fun and lively!

• - Creating a positive climate is also an effective value. I feel that when there are tones of • - Blonde espresso coffee representing the
negativity, it can subconsciously affect the partners (co-workers). If someone makes a energy brought to the table.
comment about the floor being dirty and say, “Ew! The floors look so gross!” It might make
us subconsciously feel dirty or uncomfortable to be in that environment. If we strive for a
positive comment, “We can definitely put some TLC into these floors at some point today!”
it creates a better climate and a more comfortable work environment.

• - Accountability is a strong value because it allows for learning moments and experiences • - The watch which represents time and
that might be missed if pride becomes too prominent. When I take accountability for my structure.
actions, I make sure to do so with humility and respect for others. This has proven a useful
leadership tool throughout my years at Starbucks.
• - The screwdriver which shows confidence
• - Courage is a value that can be seen in multiple lights, whether you have courage to stand and belief in oneself and abilities.
up for yourself, or courage to challenge the status quo, courage is a necessity.
• - The flower which requires nurturing and
• - Last but not least, empathy and compassion for others. care.
I.3. Future Vision
• I want to marry my girlfriend and have a family. I
want to be able to build a life and help raise some
awesome humans with my best friend, my
significant other, my other half, my love.
• I also have aspirations to be my own boss and sell
my expertise or service to others. Whether that
expertise is professional consultation in regard to
problems or roadblocks that companies might have.
If this future vision is not in the cards, I’d still love to
start my own business where I am …
My Own Boss.
Part II: Where You Are
II.1. Leadership Practices Inventory Assessment
• I feel that the LPI looks at a broader spectrum of leadership. While I was answering these questions, I found myself arguing with the numbers that
I was rating myself. In the end I realized that the questions were situational based on the job or task at hand. For example, #8. “Challenges people
to try out new and innovative ways to do their work.” I graded myself a 6 out of 10; however, at my work, we try to keep everyone maintain the
same work style in order to maintain consistency and quality of work. Having a partner attempt to warm up milk any other way than steaming it
might get interesting. The majority of the answers were pretty spot on. I realized a few areas that I could improve upon but choose not to because
of pay. This is specific to me and my situation because of the training and my past as a store manager and how I am not at that level today.
• I feel that majority of aspects were covered. Some seemed a bit repetitive. For example, #12. “Appeals to others to share an exciting dream of
the future.” and #17. “Shows others how their long-term interests can be realized by enlisting in a common vision.” Have similar questions in
regard to the future of individuals and their wants or dreams. Some of the harder questions around accountability and making the moment right
during a difficult or challenging situation that might have resulted in failure, could have been asked. This vulnerability shows how the leader
allows pride to dictate their work.

II.2. Limiting
Assumptions
• One of my biggest assumptions about myself is that I will never do
better than I did before. Still to this day, I have a fear associated with
becoming a store manager again. When I was a store manager in the
past, I thought I was doing a significant job and actually making a
difference. My manager above me came to me with his concerns of
my readiness, it was a shock to see how my job was put into question.
From that point, I was amazed to see the verbiage in which my entire
job description was placed under scrutiny. At the end of a 90-day plan,
my district manager came to me and communicated how my progress,
though substantial, was not consistent and he wanted to move
forward with separation. After this situation, I have been constantly
haunted with a huge amount of hesitation and fear that any job can
put a ton of words on paper and get rid of me. This assumption has
put me into a situation where I no longer have any aspirations for
moving up in a company that I have devoted over a decade and a half
of my time to. Looking forward, I am hoping that this assumption is
situational and not something that follows me to future positions or
future jobs. While I am taking advantage of financial opportunities
that this company is offering, I still feel an unresolved sense of defeat.
I want to overcome my fear/assumption of never doing better and
apply to be a manager when I complete my ASU journey.

II.3. Sociogram
• My world is just focused
on my very small circle.
At the moment. I am
only working, going to
school, and spending
what little time I have
left with my girlfriend
and my dogs. There is a
large amount of
improvement I’d like to
make within both my
professional life and my
personal life.
III.4. What Matters Most to You
• My health
• My relationship
• My finances

Part III: Getting from Where You
Are to Where You Want to Be
III.1. Competency Development Strategy
• Moving forward, I need to prioritize and manage my own time better. I
am constantly stretching myself thin which eventually leads to burn out.
These situations are not condusive to my emotional or mental health.
• I would love to be better planned in life as far as setting aside time for
adventures and experiences instead of just coming home and staying in.
I am constantly telling myself that I will plan things, but never do.
• My communication needs to be more concise and methodical. I speak
too quickly at times and fall back on my words. I need to plan better in
yet another aspect of life and be more patient with my thoughts and
execution.
III.2. Coaching Relationship(s)
• The ability to have a coach in general was an awesome aspect and
learning moment.
• Having a coach who knew in detail the work and the aspects involved
with that work was great insight and incredibly helpful to my
leadership and the aspects that allow me to learn from challenges or
failures.
• Communicating with someone from a different walk of life was also a
huge eye opener in hearing how similarities might be a bonding or
moment of trust.
III.3. Action Plan
• I think having an exercise plan will help add a management tool for my
time and my personal growth. I have more bikes than I can, I have just
installed a kickboxing bag with padded flooring, and I have two
rambunctious dogs that need constant attention and exercise
themselves.
• I have been neglecting a planner for years and truly feel like it is time to
sit down and plan out my life. I think this will better help me accomplish
goals and projects in a timelier manner.
• As far as my communication, I have been practicing patience. I need to
also find a tactic to better help my end result when communicating a
plan or objective… or even a point of view.
III.4. Integrated Timeline
• These goals are already in progress. I have a ring picked out and a
time and place that I will propose!
• Brandon, one of my peer coaches, inspired me to apply again for the
store manager position.

Part IV: Overall Conclusion
Conclusion
This final portfolio should have been something that I worked on in tandem
with the work throughout all of the modules. I feel my attention to detail
and my need for creativity and a personal touch was something I could not
pass up. Going back and filling this portfolio out showed the diversity this
course had to offer, and I am grateful for this learning experience. I also
feel as though a bar has been set. If my future classes do not have the
same personalized feel, I might reach out to a few students in order to see
if I could acquire my own peer coach for said class. Looking forward to my
next leadership challenge with the knew knowledge and experiences I have
gained from this class and the peer coaching sessions it nurtured.
