The study of engineering is the platform through which
everything can be improved system. One of the fundamental
objectives of an engineer, consists of adapting the
technology to offer solutions that satisfy human needs. This
generally involves building or designing a device that
achieves a goal that previously could not reach, or which did
not was completed as quickly, accurately or with desired
security.
Engineering is the discipline and
profession that applies technical
knowledge and scientists and uses
natural laws and physical resources,
in order to design and implement
materials, structures, machines,
devices, systems and processes to
achieve a desired goal, but meets the
specified criteria. Engineering is the
application of science in optimal
conversion of resources natural for the
use of humanity.

It is the profession of
the future
Engineering is an art that requires judgment necessary
for the adaptation of the knowledge to practical uses, of
the imagination to conceive solutions originals to specific
problems, and ability to predict performance and cost of
new processes. Whichever is the case, it is important to
recognize that the engineering is different from the
subjects fundamentals about science and mathematics.
The wide range of disciplines of engineering
encompasses a number of subdisciplines more
specialized, each with a more specific attention to
certain fields of application and specific areas of the
technology.
HISTORY OF ENGINEERING

The concept of engineering has existed since remote times, and has been
conceived in fundamental inventions such as the pulley, the lever and wheel.
Each of these inventions is consistent with the definition modern engineering: the
exploitation of the basic principles of mechanics for develop useful tools and
objects. The words engine and ingenious are derived from the same Latin root:
ingenerare, which means "create." The English verb engine means "contribute."
Therefore, the war machines like catapults, floating bridges and assault towers, in
their design, were contributions of engineers military.
SCIENCE VS ENGINEERING

The function of the scientist is to know,

while that the engineer's job is to do. the
scientist adds verification to the process
and systematization of knowledge of the
world physicist, the engineer applies that
knowledge to solve practical problems.
The engineering is mainly based on
physics, chemistry, mathematics and so on
extensions such as the science of
materials, solids, mechanics fluids,
thermodynamics, transfer and process rate
and systems analysis. Unlike the scientist,
the engineer is not free to choose the
problem you are interested in, must solve
the problems that go emerging and its
solution must satisfy the conflicting needs,
20TH CENTURY ENGINEERING

Most historians agree that the 20th century was

the most productive in all the history of humanity,
regarding the quantity and impact of discoveries.
The following paragraphs present what for some
are the greatest discoveries of engineering in the
20th century
TYPES OF ENGINEERING
What is the most important

industry, as it develops innovative solutions
to improve the efficiency of production

technological products.
What is the mother of all engineering?
Calling Civil Engineering the “Mother of
