After group four presented to the class I learned on what Ebonics was. Ebonics is African
American language/ black English combining English vocab with an African grammar. It is not
considered improper because it is not considered English. The US does not have a standard form
of accepted English. Many so called “errors” are not really errors because of the difference
between language. When they asked the question if Ebonics was a dialect, I think that it is
because it is a different form of English, much like different dialects in the Philippines. Ebonics
does follow grammatical and morphological rules. Ebonics has two theories, one that it is a
dialect and not its own language, and the second is that it is its own language. I also learned that
many minorities have trouble in English at school due to the differences in culture. I learned that
code switching is the practice of switching between two more dialects through a conversation.
There are advantages and disadvantages. The advantages include code-switching helps empower
people and make them feel more comfortable with their language. The disadvantages include the

rhetoric because it is deep rooted in culture. The way they speak is formed due to cultural
researching when speaking to others using Ebonics. I can think of it less as informal or
