Understanding the readiness of the athlete's body serves as a guide on whether one must advance to a
more complex skill or stay on their current phase. There is no definitive point at which an athlete
transitions into any phase, but descriptions help coaches know about where athletes are and which level of
activities they are able to accomplish.
In the associative stage of learning, athletes are honing their skills and refining their technique. They
become more consistent in their performance as they grasp the fundamentals of the skill. At this stage,
learners start to distinguish between what's important and what's not in executing the skill. They become
more efficient in their movements and focus on refining specific aspects of the skill.
Example: Dribbling and shooting in basketball, a player has mastered the basics like dribbling techniques
and shooting form. With consistent practice, I become more accurate and powerful in my shots. Now,
they focus on subtle details like hand placement on the ball and positioning of my feet, prioritizing these
over minor adjustments in my stance. This focused refinement allows me to fine-tune specific aspects
such as ball spin or shooting angle for better performance. This stage highlights their heightened
awareness of critical elements in executing successful dribbles and shots on the basketball court.

In the autonomous stage of learning, athletes execute the skill effortless without conscious focus. Having
mastered the skill, they can divert their attention to other aspects of the game. This stage signifies a
seamless integration of the skill into their performance repertoire or yung prepared to perform, freeing up
mental resources for strategic decision-making and overall game improvement.
Example:
In the autonomous stage, the student dribbles the ball effortlessly, without needing to consciously think
about each movement. With dribbling ingrained in their muscle memory, they can now focus on other
aspects of the game, such as reading the defense or setting up plays. . My mind is freed from the
mechanics of dribbling, allowing me to make split-second decisions and contribute strategy to my team's
success. This exemplifies the autonomous stage, where the skill of dribbling has become second
nature, and enable me to excel in various aspects of basketball gameplay.
