Instructions for Simulation Assignment 1

As part of this assignment, you will be randomly assigned to diverse teams (teams will be
announced shortly). As a team you are expected to make a decision. Each team member has an
important role to play. Your roles will be emailed to you. As is common in group decision making,
the group’s overall goal and individual members’ goals may diverge. For groups to be effective, they
need to attain their goals while they keep individual members satisfied.

During your group meeting please observe the following ground rules:

1. Examine the background information posted below.

2. Each person will be emailed a role.
3. Do not post your role for others to read.
4. But you should try to convince others so that you attain your objectives.
5. As a group make a decision that makes everybody happy.
6. Make your decision in no more than 30 minutes.
7. Record and share your meeting.
8. Each participant’s name and face should be clearly visible and each participant should be
clearly heard.

Grading:

Both the team meeting and the reflection paper will be graded (out of a maximum of 100 points).
Team meeting recording will be evaluated based on reaching a group decision that satisfies everyone
on the team (60 %) and individual goal communication and attainment of team members (40%).

Information on reflection papers is provided in a separate document.
