NOTICE
Safety, hazard and other information included in the MR operating instructions for motor-drive unit
type TAPMOTION® ED must be observed!
It is assumed that the cover plate of the load transmission gear is removed and that both load
transmission gear and control gear are accessible.

1 Removing old position-indicating gear

DANGER

Disconnect the equipment in accordance with the 5 safety rules:

 Disconnect the equipment.
 Lock the equipment to prevent unintentional restart.
 Make sure all phases are de-energized.
 Ground and short-circuit.
 Cover adjacent energized parts or put barriers.

Check signal voltages and disconnect them if they cannot be switched off.

Use hand crank to set motor-drive unit to

random position (position 19 is shown here)
(Fig. 1)
Please note that position on new position-
indicating gear before installation must match
position on motor-drive unit.

If the master wheel on the cam gear assem-

bly is not in the position shown here, use
hand crank to adjust it until the red mark is
opposite the adjustment pin (Fig. 2).

Remove attachment bolts (size 8 mm), and
remove the position-indicating gear (Fig. 3).
Make sure that the position transmitter equip-
ment does not turn when doing this.

NOTICE
Secure the loose cardan shaft behind the position-indicating gear against impact.
Remove the cardan shaft from the position-indicating gear only.

2 Installing new position-indicating gear

Set the new position-indicating gear manually

to the same position as the motor-drive unit
(position 1 is shown here) (Fig. 4).

Fig. 4: New position-indicating gear in position 1

Insert cardan shaft on shaft tip of position-

indicating gear; do not attach it yet with the
threaded pins (Fig. 5).
Next, place position-indicating gear in the
motor-drive unit again and put attachment
bolts in their designated positions.

Pull position-indicating gear slightly to the
front and slide the two cardan shaft parts
together (Fig. 6).

Observe correct position of the two cardan

joint brackets on both sides and of the mark-
ing holes (Fig. 7, Fig. 8).

NOTICE
It is not necessary to grease the cardan joints and slide coupling.

NOTICE
In addition to the correct master-wheel position, before tightening the fixing bolts, make sure that
the pointer of the tap-change indicator shows upwards.

Tighten both fixing bolts (size 8 mm) of
position-indicating gear using socket
wrench (Fig. 9).

Tightening torque: 5.5 Nm.

Check to make sure that the pointer of the

tap-change indicator shows upwards and
1 mm
master wheel is on red mark.

Tighten the threaded pins of the cardan

shaft using Allen key (size 1.5 mm) and
secure them with locking varnish, making
sure that the cardan shaft is not seated on Fig. 10: Attaching the cardan shaft
the shaft hub, but a distance of 1 mm is
observed (Fig. 10).

Tightening torque: 0.5 Nm (hand-tight)

NOTICE
The gap between cardan shaft and position-indicating gear / bevel gear must be 1 mm.

3 Check

Performing test operations over the complete regulating range

Perform test operations over the complete regulating range (perform last operation before end
positions with hand crank, see Operating Instructions for motor-drive unit type
TAPMOTION® ED).

NOTICE
Check that the positions of tap changer, motor-drive unit and position transmitter equipment
match over the complete regulating range!
