Installation and Operation Manual for Fire Alarm Control Panel / Fire Safety Linkage Control Panel

1. Overview

JB-QB-GST1500H-EN and JB-QG/QT-GST5000/9000H-EN fire alarm control panels / fire

linkage control panels (hereinafter referred to as "control panels") are control panels of the new
generation developed GST. To accommodate the needs of engineering design, the control panels
combine linkage and control functions and work with other products of GST to create integrated
linkage and control systems with flexible options. They are suitable for local fire alarm systems in
independent buildings. With powerful networking capability, multiple control panels can be
networked as a distributed fire alarm system.

1.1 High Capacity per Unit, High Reliability and High Output Performance

The control panels meet the design requirements of local fire alarm systems in large independent
buildings. For both linkage and alarm bus equipment, the control panels are equipped with backup
without power failure to ensure that all registered equipment is monitored when the system
commissioning is completed. The control panels have high bus output performance and fully support
two-wire bus equipment. The specific number points are shown in Table 1-1
Table 1-1

JB-QT-GST9000H-EN Console Type 60 14520

1.2 Graphical Color Display Interface and Ease of Operation

The control panel features a graphical color display interface. Different information is displayed
in different windows in different colors. The interface is tidy, easy to use and understand, and intuitive.
The functions provided by the system can be accessed through simple operations (with the number
keys or direction keys of the keypad). In addition, shortcuts are available and greatly improve the
efficiency of users.
① The check lock allows users or inspectors to quickly check the equipment comprising the
system.
② The manual/automatic switch lock and the linkage start button are used to switch the control
status and enter the linkage status quickly in the case of emergency.
③ Touch screen operation (an option available for GST9000H only) allows users to view
information quickly.

1.3 Flexible Modular Structure and Various Functionality Configuration Options

The main control part of the control panel is composed of various functional modules with a
common interface, and can be easily and flexibly configured. Bus equipment can be configured from
1 point to 14520 points by adjusting the number of connected circuit cards. If a network interface card
or other interface card is connected, the system can also be networked with other fire safety
equipment via different ports.

connection with third-party equipment; the CAN interface is used for communication connection
between multiple control panels or other devices from GST with CAN communication capability at
the site; the TCP/IP interface is used for communication connection between multiple control panels
of this series.

1.4 Intelligent Manual Startup Panel

The control panel is equipped with an intelligent manual startup panel. Each start/stop key on the
board can be associated with any bus device connected to the system for starting/stopping control the
bus linkage device.

1.5 Direct Control Panel

The control panel is equipped with a direct control panel, which can directly control the key
equipment such as fire pumps, smoke exhaust fans and forced draft fans. The control pad is capable of
detecting output disconnection and short circuit fault for maximizing the reliability of the connection
between the control pad and the terminal equipment. The direct control panel allows control of
start/stop dual control equipment via two wires.

1.6 Modular Switching Power Supply

The modular switching power supply can work within a wide range of voltage with high energy
efficiency. The elaborate charging circuit and reliable multi-level protection extend the service life of
the battery.

1.7 Easy and Fast Commissioning

To facilitate the use by users and staff, some commissioning shortcuts are added in the control to
quickly identify the control equipment status and find problems.
① The equipment status query screen displays the equipment status of the whole circuit, and
the status of alarm, fault and blocking is visible at a glance.
② It can quickly print the pollution conditions of the detectors in the whole circuit, which is
useful in equipment maintenance.

4.8.1 General Information on Fire Alarm Handling
When fire alarm occurs, identify the location of the fire alarm first and confirm whether there is a
fire.
If the fire is confirmed, notify the fire brigade immediately and organize evacuation.
In the case of false alarm, record the equipment number and time of the false alarm, identify and
record the site conditions of the equipment giving the false alarm, such as whether there is dense dust,
water vapor, drastic temperature change, air flow, large object movement, etc. If false alarm occurs
frequently, please contact our technical service personnel for solution.
4.8.2 General Information on Fault Handling
Faults can be generally divided into two categories. One is the fault caused with the internal

4.17 Description of Networking Information Display

GST1500H-EN/5000H/9000H control panels can be networked with each other and with
GST100, GST200, GST500, GST5000, GST9000, GSTN1500, GSTN3200 control panels of GST for
transmission of event information and control between them.
When multiple control panels are networked, one control panel should be defined as the central
machine, and the other control panels should be local machines. For the networking settings, the
central machine should have all options checked for network command sending and other commands
checked for network command receiving. Local machines should have other commands checked for
network command receiving and network command sending.
Because GST1500/5000/9000H control panels show information with 9-digit addresses,
GST1500/5000/9000H uses 9-digit addresses for transmission of information and commands between
them and the normal mode is used for transmission between them.
Control panels like GST100 and GST200 use 6-digit addresses. When they are networked with
GST1500/5000/9000H control panels, the formats of information display and command transmission
are as follows:
⚫ When the information and commands on the GST1500/5000/9000H control panel are
transmitted to other types of control panels, in the case of the last six digits unchanged, only
the last six digits of the 9-digit secondary addresses are displayed. For example, when fire
alarm at photoelectric smoke detector 001002-013 03 occurs in a GST1500/5000/9000H
control panel, the fire alarm at 002013 03 photoelectric smoke detector is shown on a
GST500 control panel. In the case of the first six digits unchanged, only the first six digits
of the 9-digit secondary addresses are displayed. For example, when fire alarm at
photoelectric smoke detector 001002-013 03 occurs in a GST1500/5000/9000H control
panel, the fire alarm at 001002 03 photoelectric smoke detector is shown on a GST500
control panel.

⚫ When the information from other control panels is transmitted to a GST1500/5000/9000H

control panel, in the case of the last six digits unchanged, the first three digits of the 6-digit
secondary address is added to the current control panel’s network number. For example, fire
alarm at photoelectric smoke detector 00201203 occurs in a GST500 control panel with
network number 003, the fire alarm at 003002-01203 photoelectric smoke detector is shown
on a GST1500H-EN/5000H/9000H control panel. In the case of the first six digits
unchanged, the last three digits of the 6-digit secondary address are added to the current
control panel’s network number. For example, fire alarm at photoelectric smoke detector
occurs 00201203 in a GST500 control panel with network number 003, the fire alarm at
002012-00303 photoelectric smoke detector is shown on a GST1500H-EN/5000H/9000H
control panel.
⚫ When a command sent by other control panels is transmitted to a
GST1500-EN/5000/9000H control panel, in the case of the last six digits unchanged, ***
are added before the 6-digit secondary address. For example, when a GST500 control panel
starts fire damper 00201822, the command is shown as ***002-01822 when it is transmitted
to a GST1500H-EN/5000H/9000H control panel. In the case of the first six digits
unchanged, *** are added after the 6-digit secondary address. For example, when a GST500
control panel starts fire damper 00201822, the command is shown as 002018-***22 when it
is transmitted to a GST1500H-EN/5000H/9000H control panel.

5.2 Equipment Definition

5.2.1 Content of Equipment Definition
The external field equipment connected to the control panel includes fire detectors, linkage
modules, fire display panels, direct control panels, etc. These external devices need to be addressed.
Each device corresponds to an original address and a field address. Equipment definition is to set the
field address of a device with an original address. The devices to be defined may be those registered
on the control panel or not registered on the control panel.
Original address: The original address is composed of the circuit number where the equipment
is located and its own address number. The circuit number of a circuit card or communication card is
set consecutively from 1, and the original address has nothing to do with the field wiring.
By changing the original address, a different field device can be selected for field addressing,
including secondary address, equipment type, equipment characteristics, key value and equipment
annotation.
Secondary address: The secondary address is a user-defined address, which is composed of 9
digits from 0 to 9. It is a group of numbers defined artificially to represent the specific site setting
where the device is located. With this address, a user can easily know the location of the
corresponding device and other information related to the location. The first six digits of the
secondary address are any numbers defined by the user, and the last three digits are the device's own
address and cannot be changed.
Equipment type: Refer to the equipment types in "Appendix II Equipment Type Table". By
entering two digits, and the information of corresponding equipment type will be displayed in Chinese.

Equipment characteristics: Some devices have variable configuration which can be changed
with this setting. Devices with variable configuration include:
⚫ Point type smoke detector: The sensitivity (threshold) of point type smoke detectors for
detecting smoke can be changed with 1 = sensitivity 1, 2 = sensitivity 2, 3 = sensitivity 3.
The corresponding sensitivity characteristics are shown in Table 5-1.
Table 5-1
Sensitivity
Detector threshold (dBm-1)
category
Sensitivity 1 0.1 - 0.21
Sensitivity 2 0.21 - 0.35
Sensitivity 3 0.35 - 0.56
Note: The smaller the sensitivity number, the more sensitive the detector is, which can send out alarm
for less smoke.
⚫ Output module: For modules, this item is for selecting the output control mode, "00"
represents a general pulse output control mode module; "01" represents a general
continuous level output mode module.
Key value: For a linkage device in the system, this item is used to define the start key on the
manual panel corresponding to the device. This item consists of 4 digits with the first two digits
indicating the number of the manual panel, and the last two digits indicating the manual key number.
Device annotation: Device annotation gives the location of the device or other related reminder
information in Chinese. You can enter up to 40 characters in this field. Each numeral character
or letter take up 1 place, and each Chinese character take up 2 places.
5.2.2 Device Definition Procedure

5.3 Linkage Formulas

5.3.1 Format of Linkage Formulas
Linkage formulas are logical expressions used to define the linkage relationships between alarm
devices and controlled devices in the system. When the detectors in the system send out alarms or the
status of the control modules changes, the control panel will automatically perform "Immediate start",

Gulf Security Technology Co., Ltd. http://www.gst.com.cn

78
Installation and Operation Manual for Fire Alarm Control Panel / Fire Safety Linkage Control Panel

"Delayed start" or "Immediate stop" operations of the controlled equipment according to these logic
expressions. The linkage formulas of this system is divided into two parts: the first part represents the
condition, which is composed of secondary address, equipment type and relation operator, and the
second part represents the equipment to be linked and is composed of secondary address, equipment
type and delay start time.
Example 1:

001001-001 03 X 001001-002 03 = 001001-003 22 000 001001-004 13 020

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

① Linkage trigger device 1: legal characters (0 ~ 9, *, &), i.e. the secondary address and device type
of the device, 11 places
② Linkage condition: legal character (+, x), 1 place
③ Linkage trigger device 2: legal characters (0 ~ 9, *, &), i.e. the secondary address and device type
of the device, 11 places
④ Linkage execution mode: legal characters (=, = =, = x, = = x), 1-3 places
⑤ Linkage execution device 1: legal characters (0 ~ 9, *, &), i.e. the secondary address and device
type of the device, 11 places
⑥ Delay time of linkage execution device 1: legal characters (0-9), 3 places
⑦ Linkage execution device 2: legal characters (0 ~ 9, *, &), i.e. the secondary address and device
type of the device, 11 places
⑧ Delay time of linkage execution device 2: legal characters (0-9), 3 places
The linkage formula represents that:
when point type smoke detector 001001-001 and point type smoke detector 001001-002 alarm at the
same time, fire damper 001001-003 will start immediately, and audible and visual sounder
001001-004 will start 20 seconds later.
Note:
◆ In a linkage formula, any device before or after the equal sign is required to be composed
of a secondary address and an equipment type, and the equipment type cannot be omitted.
◆ There are four expressions of the equal sign in linkage formulas, i.e. "=", "= =", "=", "= =". If
the equal sign in a linkage formula is "=" or "=", when the linkage conditions are met, the
control point can perform linkage operation only in the "All automatic" status ("=" represents
linkage start and "=" represents linkage stop). If the equal sign in a linkage formula is "==" or
"==", when the linkage conditions are met, the control point can perform linkage operation in
the "Partial automatic" or "All automatic" status ("==" represents linkage start and "=="
represents linkage stop).
◆ Only one equal sign indicating causality may exist in a linkage formula.
◆ There are two relation symbols: "or" and "and", with "+" stands for "or" and "×"stands
for "and".
◆ The delay time of the linkage equipment following the equal sign is 000-600, and the delay
time range is 0s ~ 600s.

Gulf Security Technology Co., Ltd. http://www.gst.com.cn

79
Installation and Operation Manual for Fire Alarm Control Panel / Fire Safety Linkage Control Panel

◆ In a linkage formula, wildcards are allowed with "*" representing any number between 0 and 9.
A wildcard may appear in either the condition part or the linkage part of a formula to
simplify the linkage formula appropriately. When a wildcard appears in the condition part,
the "or" relationship is implied between the devices. For example, 0*0013-003 15
represents:
000013-003 15+010013-003 15+020013-003 15+030013-003 15+040013-003 15+
050013-003 15+060013-003 15+070013-003 15+080013-003 15+090013-003 15.
◆ The "&" wildcard for causality consistency is allowed in linkage formulas. The use of "&"
is similar to that of "*". "&" is used to represent any number between 0-9, but its meaning
is different from "*". When the secondary address of a device is consistent with the
formula conditions, if the secondary address number corresponding to the place where
"&" stands has not appeared, the number is saved as the conditional number. When the
formula is established, and the corresponding place in the formula result item is also the
"&" symbol, the "&" symbol will be replaced by the corresponding conditional number
which has been saved to complete the linkage. When there is a new equipment secondary
address is processed, the above rule still applies to complete the linkage with the same
logical relationship in different areas.
◆ The equipment type in the linkage part of a linkage formula cannot contain wildcard "*"
or "&".
For example, the formula of &&&***-*** 03 = &&&***-*** 13000 means that when any
point type smoke detector in a certain area sends out alarm, any sounder in the same area will
start immediately. That is, when device 121***-*** 03 gives an alarm, device 121***-*** 13
starts without delay; when device 122***-*** 03 gives an alarm, device 122***-*** 13 starts
without delay; and so on.

control panel enters the early warning status, and the LCD display of the control panel will
display the early warning message and send out the fire alarm sound, but it will not output
automatic linkage alarm or make linkage formula judgment.
 If another detector meeting the early-warning association conditions also sends out alarm
after the control panel has entered the early-warning status for 5 minutes, the early-warning
association conditions are met, the early-warning is regarded as fire alarm, the control panel
enters the fire alarm status, lights up the fire alarm indicator, output automatic linkage alarm
and complete the automatic start-up operation according to the linkage formula (the alarm
output and automatic start-up are also subject to the settings made by the user).
 If no other device sends out alarm after the control panel has entered the early-warning
status for 5 minutes, the control panel automatically clears the early warning message and
reset the device sending out the alarm.
 The alarm raised by the manual call points is not affected by the early warning settings, and
directly leads to the fire alarm status.
By enabling early warning permission, improper operation caused by the false alarm from a
certain device can be effectively avoided. In the early warning status, when a fire alarm is confirmed
manually, one may press any manual call point to make the control panel enter the fire alarm status
immediately.
You may set the alarm association according to the actual conditions of the site. The control
panel can have up to 32 early warning association formulas. The formula shown in Fig. 5-28 is
defined as follows: When the system detects alarm from a detector meeting curtain conditions, the
system enters the early warning status, and causes the speaker to send out fire alarm sound without
activating linkage output.

6.4 Duplicate Address Detection in All Circuits

The control panel is able to detect duplicate addresses on buses. Duplicate address detection is
used to identify the equipment with duplicate addresses and the number of the duplicate addresses in
the circuits to help the installation and commissioning personnel find the reason for the insufficient
number of registration and eliminate the duplicate addresses. After detection, the results of duplicate
address detection are displayed on the right side of the screen, and the information on duplicate
addresses is written into the running recorder and operation records. In the screen shown in Fig. 6-1,
select "4. Duplicate address detection in all circuits" to start duplicate address detection, as shown in
Fig. 6-5.

Fig. 6-5
Note: After the control panel has completed the equipment registration, the installation and
commissioning personnel should check the number and location of the devices in each circuit
registered in the system. When the number of registered devices is less than the actual installed
number in the circuit, a possible reason is that there are problems in the installation and wiring
of the equipment, or that two or more external devices have the same address (i.e., duplicate
address).

7.5.5 Manual Control
You may set the operation authority with the manual lock on a direct control panel. When the
lock is in the "Allowed" position, operation with the start or stop key is effective; otherwise, the key
operation is invalid.
In the "Manual allowed" mode:
 When the "Start" key of a channel is pressed, the "Start" indicator is lit, and the start
command is sent, and the corresponding controlled device should act. When the direct control
panel receives feedback signal from the controlled device, the "Feedback" indicator of the channel
is lit. If no feedback signal is received from the channel within 10 seconds after the start command
is sent by the direct control panel, the "Start" indicator flashes.
 Press the "Stop" key of the channel, the "Start" indicator goes out, the stop command is sent,
and the start signal of the controlled device is revoked.
Note:
⚫ To ensure the reliability of key operation, wait for more than 1 second before the next key

⚫ Usually, the manual lock should be set to "Not allowed" status to avoid misoperation.
7.5.6 Automatic Control
You may enable automatic control of the control output of the direct control panels with the
preset linkage formulas on the control panel. First, write linkage formulas according to the definitions
of the direct control panels, and make them the equipment items of the linkage formulas. In the
"Automatic allowed" mode, the control panel will automatically execute the start or stop control
output by the direct control panels after the conditions of the linkage formulas are met.
Note: Automatic control is not subject to the manual lock’s authority and is possible in the
"Manual not allowed" mode.

open the front cover of the panel to remove the printing paper roll. Replace the printing paper when it
is used out. The change procedure is described as follows:
1) Turn on the front cover, press down the ends of the paper axis inside printer and take it out;
2) Put the new thermal printing paper into the printer. Be careful to put the smooth surface
(heat-sensitive surface) of the printing paper facing upward, and then close the front panel of the
printer.
8.2.2 Self-Test
When the printer is powered on and in the standby mode (no printing or paper feeding in progress),
press and hold the paper feeding button for a while (2 seconds), and the printer will print out a self-test
list. This is used to check whether the printer works normally except the parts, especially the working
condition of the print head.
8.2.3 Operation Status
 Normal standby status: The green indicator is lit;
 Out of paper: The green indicator flashes four times at intervals;
 Over-temperature: The green indicator flashes slowly;
Note: In the process of use, keep the printing paper roll in a tight status. The diameter of the
paper roll will increase when it is loose, handicapping paper fed through the printing head.
8.3 Battery Maintenance
When the machine is turn off, the backup power switch must be turned off too. Otherwise, the
backup power supply will be consumed by circuits inside the control panel to the empty level, leading
to the risk of damaging the battery. The maintenance free lead-acid battery used by the control panel
has a small discharge current, it needs to be regularly charged and maintained. If the control panel is
not used for an extended period of time, it should be charged for 48 hours every month. If the control
panel relies on the backup power supply due to failure of the primary power supply, the backup power
supply may become empty, so it is necessary to restore the primary power supply as soon as possible
and charge the battery for 48 hours. If the backup power supply remains empty for more than one
week, the battery may be damaged. It is recommended that the battery be replaced at least every three
years.
