1. A capacitor C is connected in series with a 40 Ω
resistor across a supply of frequency 60 Hz. A current of 3 A
flows and the circuit impedance is 50 Ω. Calculate:
(a) the value of capacitance C (4marks)
(b) the supply voltage (4marks)
(c) the phase angle between the supply voltage and current (4marks)
(d) the p.d. across the resistor (4marks)
(e) the p.d. across the capacitor (4marks)

a 200 V d.c. supply. Calculate
(a) the time constant; (5marks)

(c) the time taken for the p.d. across the capacitor to grow to 160 V (5marks)
(d) the current and the p.d. across the capacitor 4.0 s after it is connected to the
supply. (5marks)
