WAVES

Characteristics of
sound waves
Our surroundings are filled with a variety
of sounds. Sound is a form of energy
caused by vibration .
TRANSFER OF SOUND
Sound requires a medium to propagate. Sound can
propagate through a liquid, solid and gas, but not
through vacuum. For example, when a bell is rung, the
metal surface will also vibrate and collide with their air
molecules to another molecules beside it in the form of
waves . In this way , the bell produces sound that can be
heard by the ears of the listener .
Sound is transferred very rapidly in
Speed of solids. When the particles at one end of
transfer of the solid start to vibrate , the vibration
causes the nearby particles of solids are
sounds in solid arranged very closely together .
