Navigation: Latitude & Longitude

Latitude and longitude are angles that define points on a sphere. Together, the angles create a
scheme that can locate or identify geographic positions on the surfaces of planets such as the
earth.

Latitude - the lines extending around the Earth horizontally are called lines of
latitude. They measure how far north or south an object is on the Earth.

Longitude - The lines running vertically around the Earth are called longitude.
These lines are called meridians, and measure how far east or west an object is.

Cartography - the science or practice of drawing maps.
