Smooth passages at the top and lower end should prevent

the load from touching the ground or damage to the truck.

Condition of roadways

Roadways must be solid enough, free of debris and

dropped objects. Drainage ducts, railway crossings and
the like must be level and, if necessary, provided with
ramps so that they can be crossed without jolts, if possible.

4 497 099-03.04 ©
There must be sufficient clearance between the highest
parts of the truck or load and fixed parts of the
surroundings. The height depends on the height of lift
and the dimensions of the load. Refer to the technical
data.

Rules for roadways and work area

Only the roads released for traffic by the operator or his

representative may be driven on. The roadways must be
free of obstacles. The load may only be stacked and stored
at the appropriate places. The operator and his
representative must ensure that unauthorized persons
keep away from the work area.

Hazards

Hazards on roadways must be marked with the usual traffic

signs or, if necessary, by additional warning signs.

Operating instructions EGV 14/EGV 16
Operation
Driving safety rules

Behaviour when driving

The driver must drive within the plant according to the

traffic rules for public roads. The speed of the truck must
be consistent with the local conditions. Speed must be
reuced, for example, in bends, narrow passages, when
driving through swing doors, in areas where visibility is
obstructed and on uneven ground. A safe braking distance
must always be maintained to the vehicle ahead and to
persons. Sudden braking, fast turns, overtaking in
hazardous or areas with poor visibility must be avoided.

EGV 14, EGV 16 walkie trucks are designed for application

by an operator on foot. For this reason:

- Never work sitting or standing on the truck.

- Remember that the truck is not intended to be used as

stepladder.

- Remember that the truck is not designed for

transporting human cargo.
4 497 099-03.04 ©

Visibility when driving

The driver must look in the direction of travel and have a

clear view of the route travelled on. He must always ensure
that the way is clear, particularly when reversing. When
transporting goods that obstruct visibility, the truck must
be driven with the load trailing. If this is not possible, a
guide must walk ahead of the truck. In this case, the
truck may only be driven at walking pace and with the
utmost caution. The truck must be stopped immediately
when eye contact with the guide is lost. Do not drive with
the load raised.

Operation
Use in cold storage warehouses*

Your truck can be used for cold storage applications

with the proper optional equipment. It can be employed
for two types of applications and is identified with the
cold storage symbol.

Description

The cold storage equipment consists of a heater resis-

tor in the tiller and the use of oils suitable for cold
storage areas (for the gearbox) and greases (for mov-
ing parts such as toothing and chains).

Proper use

Application 1: Continuous duty in the –5 °C tem-

perature range and brief operation
down to –10 °C; parking outside the
cold storage area.
Application 2: Duty alternating between inside and
outside in temperatures ranging from
–32°C to +40° C; parking outside the

4 497 099-03.04 ©
cold storage area.
For this duty, use the recommended
cold store hydraulic oil.

Use Operation

General Application 1

The change from a cold temperature inside to a warm Continuous duty in the –5 °C temperature range and
temperature outside causes condensation. The con- brief operation down to –10 °C.
densate water can freeze when re-entering the cold
storage area, blocking moving parts of the truck. That
is why it is important to pay attention to how long you Application 2
work in the different temperature zones.
The traction batteries should never be cooled to the Duty alternating between inside and outside in tem-
temperature of the cold storage warehouse (down to peratures ranging from –32 °C to +25 °C, brief op-
–32 °C), otherwise they will be become inoperative. eration up to +40 °C. The truck should not leave the
cold storage warehouse area for longer than 10 min-
utes to prevent the formation of condensate water.
Before operation If the truck remains outside for over 10 minutes, it
must stay there at least until the condensate water
has run off. This usually takes at least 30 minutes.
CAUTION: The truck must be dry and at operating tem-
perature before it is used in the cold storage area.
ATTENTION: Do not attempt to loosen frozen parts
with your hands if the condensate water has frozen
- Drive the truck about 5 minutes and operate the
moving parts in the cold storage warehouse.
brake several times to ensure safe operation.

- Operate all lift functions several times. This warm- Parking

up phase is necessary for the oil to reach its oper-
ating temperature. - Always park the truck outside the cold storage area.

CAUTION: The batteries should not remain overnight

in the cold storage area if not used or recharged.

- Recharge the battery outside the cold storage area

and operate the truck with a replacement battery.

Safety rules for handling loads

The following sections contain the safety rules for handling

loads.

The most important safety precautions are: 1

- Do not step or stand under a h3
raised load. Danger of loss of life!
- Do not exceed the maximum
loads given in the capacity plate.
Otherwise truck stability will not
be ensured!
h2

Mast versions

Your truck can be equipped with one of the following masts.

Their method of operation is as follows:
4 497 099-03.04 ©

Telescopic mast (1)

When the lift button is pressed, the inner cylinder raises

the inner mast and so lift the fork carriage (h3) via the 2
chain (fork carriage is lifted at twice the speed of the
inner mast). h3
CAUTION: If the ceiling is low, note that the inner mast
can be raised higher than the fork carriage.

Hi-Lo mast* (2) h2

When the lift button is pressed, the inner cylinder extends

as far as the free lift (h2). The outer cylinders then raise
the inner mast to the maximum height (h3).

NOTE: When a load is raised beyond the free lift, the fork
carriage always remains at the top edge of the extending
mast end.

CAUTION: If the ceiling is low, note that the picked up

load can be higher than the fork carriage.

Triple mast* (3)

h3
Operation as for Hi-Lo mast, but increased lifting height
