Punctuation are symbols that help organize writing, emphasis phrases, words and
sentences.
Courtesy is sshowing politeness in your writing by using phrases like “please”,
“thank you” etc..
Importance of courtesy in writing :
 Demonstrates (shows) professionalism
 It shows respect
 It increases clarity
 Communicates empathy
Paragraph Development
Paragraph ais group of sentences about a single topic.
It has three basic parts:
 Topic sentence: usually first sentence and it tells a general idea of a
paragraph
  Supporting sentences: supports the topic sentence by giving examples, facts
and reasons
 Concluding sentence: usually the last sentence it repeats the general idea and
gives final comment/summary

Essay Vs Funtional Writing

Funtional writing is a type of writing that teaches real-life writing skills, like letter
writing or CV writing.
WHILE
Essay is a literary composition that describes, analyzes and evaluates certain topics
or an issue. It usually contains a combination of facts and figures

Difference between Essay and composition

 Essay is a relatively short piece of writing about a topic while composition is
creative art.
 An essay is a type of composition but not all composition Essay.
Types of Compositions
 Descriptive: written to depict an event, place or a person.
 Narration : Tells a story.
  Expository: Explanatory type of writing, explains an event, place or a
person.
 Argumentative: Usually written to describe comparison and contrast
between two situation or give an opinion.

Rules of a good essay writing

1) Determine the type of the topic
2) Think about the topic
3) Make the main idea and supporting ideas that supports the main
4) Standard(normal) essay is made up of five paragraphs
5) Introduction grabs the attention of the reader so make it interesting.
6) Detailed explanation
7) There must be a link between each paragraph
8) Conclusion shouldn’t ben too long, be brief/short

Compostion is 3 parts
1) Introduction: is the first paragraph of the composition, it introduces the topic
and it acts as your title. So if your introduction is boring then it’s all bad.
2) Body : is made up of paragraphs where you present the goal the
composition, which you presented in your introduction. It should contain
details and facts.
3) Conclusion is the last paragraph of your composition. it should contain the
most important parts of your composition and give the reader a sense of
completeness.

Letters are a medium which organisations or a business can communicate with
another organization.
it’s usually classified into two:
 Formal(Application, business letters etc…)
 Informal (Letters to friends and family)
