2.0 Introduction
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are a global health challenge caused by bacteria,
viruses, or parasites and are typically transmitted through sexual activity.
These diseases impact individuals' health and public health, affecting people's development
(Dubois, 2023).
This study aims to investigate the impact of STDs on the development of Rwandan people by
collecting relevant information and highlighting conclusions and recommendations after data
collection.
2.1. Background
Sexually transmitted diseases (STIs), also known as venereal diseases, have been a significant
public health concern since the early 20th century.
The first recorded European outbreak of syphilis occurred in 1494, and treatment was limited
to treating the symptoms of the infection( Dubois, 2023). The first voluntary hospital for
STIs was founded in 1746 at London Lock Hospital. In the 19th century, the Contagious
Diseases Acts were used to arrest suspected prostitutes. In 1924, states concluded the
Brussels Agreement, providing free or low-cost medical treatment at ports for merchant
seamen with STIs. Nora Wattie, a Venereal Diseases Officer in Glasgow, encouraged contact
tracing and volunteering for treatment (Wattie, 2023;King,2007).
The first effective treatment for STIs was salvarsan, a treatment for syphilis. The discovery of
antibiotics made many STIs easily curable, leading to a public perception that they have
ceased to be a serious medical threat (Stephen, 2011; Jill, 2013). However, the prevalence of
STIs is rising rapidly in low- and middle-income countries due to globalization and
urbanization. Factors contributing to this increase include limited sexual health education,
stigma, cultural barriers, lack of access to healthcare services, a high prevalence of HIV,
unsafe sexual practices, a lack of awareness about STD symptoms, and migration and
mobility(Jill, 2013).

Treatments include reducing sex partners, using condoms, and regular screening. Studies in
Rwanda suggest that STDs may affect social and economic development (Jill, 2013). The
problem's relevance to national or local health communities is significant, and there is a need
for further research. A middle-income country was chosen for the study due to its high
prevalence and impact on development. The study aims to understand the link between STDs
and development.
2. What are possible measures and solutions taken to overcome sexually transmitted diseases
in the Nyamirambo sector to achieve sustainable development in Rwanda?

1. 5. Research Methodology
It will involve using research strategies and settings in data collection, research design, how
data will be collected, and sample selections from the population, research instruments,
methods of data analysis, and limitations to the surveys.
1.5.0. Sampling
In this step, I will emphasise the process or techniques of calculating sample size based on
the population number of selected areas.
1.5.2. Instrument(s)
The questionnaire and electronic devices like personal computers and cell phones for
communication recorders for interviews will be used in the provision of relevant findings.
Chapter 1: will covers title of the study, introduction (background) problem statement,
research objective followed by research methodology, and also i will display the work plan
of the project, plan utilization and dissemination of research results , references and annexes
will be valuated to understand and achieve the main purpose of this study.
Chapter two. Literature review: in chapter two we will provide a deep clear description of key
concepts, and will be involved in examining books, magazines, and journals. Reports as well
as to have a clear understanding of our project towards future goals settled by the
Government.

Chapter three: Shall display values methods to estimate sample size of selected population,
research design and methodology.
Chapter four: this chapter shall provide relevant data information, and analyses results
received from interviewers and questioned population with helps of values method which will
be applied
Chapter five: there will be a presentation of the answer to the research question in forms of
tables and charts, thus recommendation shall be delivered based on findings. At the end of
this project will come up with reference, Annexes, Abbreviation and Acronyms, This
project will immediately take effect (begin) as long as approved. To achieve the main
objective of this project, Researcher, under supervision of school help, Leaders, People of
study Area will play a big role.
