The role of computers in information management

In almost every industry, computers are essential tools for daily tasks, productivity, and

communication with customers, suppliers, and the public. Managers use computers for many

things, including keeping teams on track, creating budgets and plans, tracking inventory, and

preparing documents, proposals, and demos. To improve the way they manage their business,

managers must understand not only the basic functions of software tools used in the office, but

also the basic functions of networking and other external computing devices.

Computers have had a huge impact on the way information is processed in organizations.

Throughout history, data processing has always been a manual process, but in today's business

age, the decision-making process is too fast to be done without computerized data management.

Computers are an important part of a company's management information system (MIS). Over

the past few years, most businesses have multiple computers operating as information systems.

Many tools today integrate important data from a variety of sources, such as sales, timesheets,

and inventory. MIS software collects data and creates actionable reports to help the business.

Information management is a system that includes people, systems, programs, databases and data

structures. The system collects data from internal and external sources of the organization.

Basically, MIS is an acronym of three words: Management, Information and Systems. To fully

understand the term MIS, let's try to understand these three words.
