Power Up Your Summer Proposal

June-August 2024
 Objectives
o Process
 Conduct at least 4 pop-up events in Long Beach that encourage youth ages 5-
14 and their families to be active and consume healthy foods during summer
break.
 Launch a social media campaign during summer break with messaging that
encourages youth ages 5-14 and their families in Long Beah to be active and
consume healthy foods during summer break.
o Impact
 Youth between the ages of 5-14 years old and their families in Long Beach are
encouraged to choose and consume healthy foods and meals during summer
break.
 Youth between the ages of 5-14 years old and their families in Long Beach are
encouraged to be physically active for 60 minutes daily during summer break.
 Program Plan
o Pop Up Events
 Once a week between the middle of June and the end of August, the Healthy
Active Long Beach Team, in partnership with Parks, Recreation and Marine,
Libraries, and Walk and Roll Long Beach will host weekly pop-up events at
different parks across Long Beach to provide 45 minutes of physical activity
instruction and 15 minutes of spa water demonstration and healthy food
tasting for youth. Physical activities could include but are not limited to hula
hooping, jump rope, yoga, Zumba, and bike safety workshops.

 De Forest Park
 Admiral Kidd Park
 Drake Park
o Kick Off and Closing Events
 To both promote the Power Up Your Summer Program as well as encourage
physical activity and health eating among youth ages 5-14 in Long Beach, two
events will be held to kick-off and close out the program. The Healthy Active
Long Beach Team, in partnership with the Walk and Roll Long Beach
Program, will host a community bike ride that will start at the Marina- go
down along the beach bike path to Bixby Park and loop back around to the
Marina. At the start of the route (which will also be the end of the route), a
pop-up event with music, giveaways and spa water will be available for
attendees, as well as the frequent flyer punch cards for attendees to use for
each pop-up event they attend during the program.
 The Healthy Active Long Beach Team, in partnership with Libraries, will host
the Closing Event which will include a festive pop-up event, with music,
dancing, games, and prizes to celebrate the end of summer and the program.
To incentive engagement in the Power Up Your Summer Activities, the
frequent flyer punch cards distributed at the kick-off event will be collected
from attendees and incentives will be provided based on the total number of
activities attendees participated in and punched on their card.
