4. The Ant and The Dove
The Legend of Putri Tandamalik
One hot day, an Ant was searching for
some water. After walking around for some
time, she came to a spring. To reach the
spring, she had to climb up a blade of grass.
While making her way up, she slipped and fell
into the water.
She could have drowned if a Dove up a
nearby tree had not seen her. Seeing that the
Ant was in trouble, the Dove quickly plucked
off a leaf and dropped it into the water near
the struggling Ant and the Ant moved towards
the leaf and climbed up there. Soon it carried
her safely to dry ground. Just at that time, a
hunter nearby was throwing out his net
towards the Dove, hoping to trap it.
Guessing what he was about to do, the
Ant quickly bit him on the heel. Feeling the
pain, the hunter droipped his net. The Dove
was quick to fly away to safety.
3. The Legend of Surabaya
A long time ago on East Java, there
were two strong animals, Sura and Baya. Sura
was a shark and Baya was a crocodile.
Actually they were friend, but when they were
hungry, they were very greedy and did not
want to share their food. They fought for it
and never stop.
One day Sura and Baya were looking
some food, but they did not want to share and
they fought again. After several hours Sura
and Baya had plan to stop their fought. Sura
live and look for food in the sea and Baya live
and look for food on the land.
But one day, Sura went to the land and
look for food in the river. Baya was angry
when he knew that Sura was broke the
promise. Than Sura and Baya fought again
and finally Sura was gave up and he went
back to the sea.

The Legend of Putri Tandampalik is a
hit story in Sulawesi. In this story there is a
princess named Putri Tandampalik who
expelled from the Luwu Kingdom because she
was attacked by leprosy. However, when the
princess was stranded on an island, the leprosy
on her body was cured because she was licked
by a white buffalo.
Finally the princess married the crown
prince of the Bone Kingdom. Their life was
finally happy even though they both came
from two different countries at that time.
1. The Legend of Toba Lake
Once upon a time, there was a man who
was living in north Sumatra. He lived in a
simple hut in a farming field. He did some
gardening and fishing for his daily life.
One day, while the man was fishing, he
caught a big golden fish in his trap. It was the
biggest catch he ever had in his life.
Surprisingly, this fish turn into a beautiful
princess. He fell in love with her and proposed
to her as his wife. She said; “Yes, but you
have to promise not to tell anyone about the
secret that I was once a fish, otherwise there
will be a huge disaster”. The man deal and
they got married, lived happily and had a son.
Few years later, this son would help bring
lunch to his father out in the fields. One day,
his son was so hungry that he ate his father’s
lunch. Unfortunately, he found out and got
furious, and shouted; “You damned son of a
fish”. The son ran home and ask her mother.
The mother started crying, feeling sad that her
husband had broken his promise.
Then she told her son to run up the hills
because a huge disaster was about to come.
When her son left, she prayed. Soon there was
a big earthquake followed by non-stop
pouring rain. The whole area got flooded and
became Toba lake. She turned into a fish again
and the man became the island of Samosir.
