COMPANION

1. Pathfinder Pledge

The Pathfinder pledge is our personal spiritual journey with our Creator. It
started with the phrase ~ “By the grace of God”, which only indicates that
God is the steward of our lives, and we are sustained by His amazing grace.
Mrs. Ellen G. White mentioned on one her books, “As we make Christ our
daily companion, and by looking unto Jesus, we shall become assimilated to
His image. By beholding we become changed. The characters are softened,
refined, and ennobled… The soul that turns to God for its help, its support,
its power, by daily, earnest prayer, will have noble aspirations, clear
perceptions of truth and duty, lofty purposes of action, and a continual
hungering and thirsting after righteousness. The pathfinder pledge illustrates
how God’s amazing grace can transform our minds, attitudes, and actions. It
entails the power of reformation, hence, to be “pure and kind and true”. A
covenant to the Creator that we, as Master Guides in Training will keenly
keep His Laws and be stewards of His creation. In return, God proclaims His
covenant in Psalm 103:13 and elaborated in February 10, 2024 Sabbath
School lesson: God’s people take comfort in the fact that the Lord is faithful
to His covenant.

2. Spiritual Discovery

A. The Parable of the Hidden Treasure

Matthew 13:44-46

44“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found
it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that
field. 45“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine
pearls. 46When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything
he had and bought it.

B. Miracles

Jesus Heals a Man Let Down through the Roof of a House

Luke 5:17-20

17
On one of the days while Jesus was teaching, some proud religious law-
keepers and teachers of the Law were sitting by Him. They had come from
every town in the countries of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. The
power of the Lord was there to heal them. 18 Some men took a man who was not
able to move his body to Jesus. He was carried on a bed. They looked for a way
19
to take the man into the house where Jesus was. But they could not find a way
to take him in because of so many people. They made a hole in the roof over
where Jesus stood. Then they let the bed with the sick man on it down before
Jesus. 20 When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the man, “Friend, your sins are
forgiven.”

C. Sermon on the Mount

Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

God is our perfect example of being merciful. In our Sabbath School Lesson,
mercy (Hebrew “khesed”, steadfast love) conveys God’s goodness and loyalty
to His creation and His covenant. Psalm 136:1-26 show that God’s immense
power and magnificence are grounded in His steadfast love. God’s mercy in
creation and history should inspire His people to trust in Him and to remain
faithful to His covenant. The belief in the Lord’s enduring mercy is at the core
of biblical faith, which includes joyous worship and confidence, as well as
reticence and repentance. (Sabbath School Lesson, February 11, 2024)

4. Health and Fitness

Study the detrimental effects of smoking on health fitness. Write your own
commitment abstaining from the use of tobacco.

“Cigarette smoking is dangerous to your health”. This quote is obviously

common to us since every cigarette add contains the mantra, but the ironic thing
was that people were not bothered hearing this all the time. Our generation
sometimes portray smoking as being “cool” or “mature”, even invented vapes to
destroy the lungs in a high-tech way.

Unfortunately, to quit smoking is easier to say than done. Discipline and support
from the people you love are great steps to start, but thinking on how
disrespectful to the Creator that we abuse His temple might be our loudest
wake-up call to realize how detrimental smoking is. We, His beloved creation
should value our bodies by consuming only good sustenance. Avoiding habits
that can make our Creator unhappy.
