Cornish pasties are traditional savory pastry pockets filled with meat and vegetables, originating from

Cornwall, England. Here's a recipe to make them at home:

Ingredients:
For the Pastry:
 2 cups all-purpose flour
 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
 1/2 teaspoon salt
 1/2 cup cold water
For the Filling:
 1 lb (about 450g) beef skirt steak, diced into small cubes
 1 large potato, peeled and diced into small cubes
 1 large onion, finely chopped
 1 small rutabaga (swede), peeled and diced into small cubes
 Salt and pepper to taste
 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
 2 tablespoons butter, diced
 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions:
Make the Pastry:
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter.
2. Rub the butter into the flour using your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
3. Gradually add the cold water, a little at a time, and mix until the dough comes together. Be
careful not to overwork the dough.
4. Shape the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Prepare the Filling:
1. In a large bowl, combine the diced beef, potato, onion, and rutabaga.
2. Season the filling with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce (if using). Mix well to combine.
Assemble the Pasties:
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled pastry dough to about 1/8 inch thickness.
3. Using a plate or pastry cutter as a guide, cut out circles of dough, approximately 6-8 inches in
diameter.
4. Place a generous amount of filling onto one half of each pastry circle, leaving a border around
the edge.
5. Dot the filling with diced butter.
6. Fold the other half of the pastry over the filling to create a semi-circle shape. Press the edges
together to seal.
7. Crimp the edges of the pasties with a fork to seal them tightly.
8. Place the assembled pasties onto the prepared baking sheet.
9. Brush the tops of the pasties with beaten egg to create a golden crust.
Bake:
1. Bake the pasties in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until they are golden brown and
cooked through.
2. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
Serve:
1. Enjoy your homemade Cornish pasties warm or at room temperature, either as a snack or a
meal.
These pasties are perfect for picnics, lunchboxes, or as a hearty dinner served with a side of
vegetables or salad.
