Today, we'll be discussing the various factors related to ADHD, including food allergies, medical

conditions, medical side effects, and familial factors.

Slide 2
Studies have suggested a link between food allergies and ADHD. While the exact mechanism is not
yet known, it is believed that certain foods may trigger an immune response in some people, leading
to inflammation and other changes in the brain that may contribute to ADHD symptoms. Some
common food allergens that may be associated with ADHD include dairy, wheat, soy, and artificial
food additives such as food coloring.

Slide 3: Medical Conditions and ADHD

Other medical conditions can cause symptoms that look like ADHD, but which really are not.
Hyperthyroidism, a disorder resulting in overproduction of a hormone produced by an over-active
thyroid gland, can result in accelerated heart rate and hyperactive behavior. There are several medical
conditions that may be associated with ADHD SUCH AS Chronic pain Tourette's syndrome

Slide 4: Medical Side Effects

Certain medications may cause ADHD-like behavior. Phenobarbital and dilantin, anti-convulsants used
to treat children with seizure disorders, may give rise to inattention and hyperactivity. Some common
side effects of ADHD-like behaviour
Mood changes: Some people may experience mood changes such as irritability, anxiety, or depression
while taking ADHD medications.
Tics: Stimulant medications can worsen or trigger tics in some people,

Slide 5: Familial Factors and ADHD

Research has shown that ADHD tends to run in families, suggesting a genetic component to the
disorder. However, the exact genes involved are not yet fully understood. Studies have also found that
environmental factors such as prenatal exposure to toxins and maternal smoking during pregnancy
may increase the risk of developing ADHD. However, most people would agree that children who live
in families which lack structure, routine, discipline, and order may have a greater likelihood of
developing disruptive behavior disorders which can result in symptoms of inattention, impulsivity,
and hyperactivity.

In conclusion, food allergies, other medical conditions, medication side effects, and familial factors
may all contribute to the development and severity of ADHD symptoms.
