Revival: Restoring Obedience Towards a Glorious Church

Which is hindi po talaga natin dapat mamiss. Habang nananalangin po
tayo as to what to share this morning, naalala ko po yung sinabi po ni Pastor Joey.

I. Contextual Foundation

What do we mean by the word Obedience?

The Old and New Testaments have different uses and/or meaning for the
word “obey”.

i. Old – it signifies “to hear” or “to listen” – in the Old Testament, it is

the SUPREME TEST OF FAITH in God and reverence to Him. Ito po ay
mahalagang detalye rin, Sometimes, the relation may have been
formal and cold, it nevertheless was the one strong tie which held the
people close to God. sa Old Testament po pala you cannot say na

“Hath Yahweh as great delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices, as
in obeying the voice of Yahweh? Behold, to obey is better than
sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams”.
ii. New – Ngayon po dito sa New Testament, mas mataas ang standard
ng pagsunod o obedience. Bakit po? Kasi in this dispensation dito po
naiset na yung example ni Jesus as the perfect example of obedience.
Sa New Testament ang obedience and faith ay halos pareho na po ng
paggamit.
pala may pagsunod.

Tayo ay “Children of
Obedience”. Sabi po sa 1 Peter 1:14:

“as children of obedience, not fashioning yourselves according to your

former lusts in [the time of] your ignorance:” (ASV)

“So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your
old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any
better then.” (NLT)

Do take note, yung concept ng blessing through obedience ay never tinanggal mga
Let us read Luke 5:1-7

“One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding
around him and listening to the word of God. He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left
there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the
one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down
and taught the people from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to
Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered,
“Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say
so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of
fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to
come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to
sink.” (Luke 5:1-7)

Ngayon po na nailatag na natin yung ibig sabihin ng Obedience let us go po sa ilang

mga observations concerning Obedience:

II. Initial Observations

a. Obedience can come from two reasons:
- Weakness – We obey because we have-to:

- Or -

- Humility – We obey because we know that we can never be

enough.
o We continually seek the counsel of others because we are
fully aware that we can never be right all the time.
o The greatest proof of our humility is if we are humble enough
to obey God.

kanya.

b. Obedience is by far one of the biggest challenges of the Church.

i. Marami pong paghihirap ng pamilya, ng komunidad, ng church

ay bunga po ng disobedience.

pangunahing reason?

Answer: Masyado nang magaling, ayaw nang

magpasakop. Nakakalungkot po pero isa po ito sa
napakalaking katotohanan.

c. We cannot dream of unity without first desiring to obey.

Doon po sa ating Scriptural Text this morning, in fact, the one important
issue ng Philippian Church na gustong i-address ni Apostle Paul is the issue of
unity inside the Church.
Banal na Spirito, is Obedience.
a. Unity is one of the qualities of a Glorious Church. Saan po natin yan makikita?
“then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being
one in spirit and purpose.” (Philippians 2:2)

b. Yung pagsunod
po na tinutukoy dito mga kapatid is more than just compliance na nakita natin sa
Old Testament conception ng obedience.

Philippians 2?
III. Three Things we Need to know About Obedience

a. The Characteristic of Obedience to God;

We can find it in Philippians 2:2-4
o A sense of Purpose as opposed to having selfish ambitions;
o Humility as opposed to having vain conceit;
o Selflessness as opposed to Selfishness;

delayed obedience, and of course mere compliance.

b. Obedience to God is the ultimate test of a Believer’s Faith

“Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed – not only in my
presence, but now much more in my absence – continue to work out your
salvation with fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12)

salvation. We cannot say na we are saved without our desire to obey
God and His will.
b. Ang mahalaga pong detalye dito ay it is directed not to the unbeliever
but to the believer.

c. The Building Blocks of Obedience

Very

Now take note po yung sinabi niya sa verses 20-
22 ang sabi po “I have no one else like him, who takes a genuine
interest in your welfare. For everyone looks out for his own interests,
not those of Jesus Christ. But you know that Timothy has proved himself,
because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the
gospel.”

Ano po ang description ni Timothy? Genuine interest sa welfare ng mga

Philippians, ito po ay Love and Compassion for Others.

this is actually the most important description sa kanya in this chapter, sa
verse 30, ano po ang sabi? “because he almost died for the work of
Christ, risking his life to make up for the help you could not give me.”
Ano po ang description ni Epaphroditus? Ganon na lamang yung love
niya sa Lord na muntik na siyang mamatay to do the work of Christ. Ito po
ay Passionate Love for God.

Alam niyo po mga kapatid, this is one of the important virtues natin as a
church, we somehow place great importance sa pagsunod. Other
churches and siguro that is really one gift na binigay ng Lord sa church
natin especially nung mga revivals that our church experienced, hindi po
tayo talaga mareklamo. Sadly po I witnessed some instances na parang
nakakalimutan na po natin ito as a church.
Marahil po yung iba nagtataka kung bakit wala yung concept of
obedience sa Core Values natin, eh kung mahalaga po talaga, because I
believe hindi na siya kailangang ilagay. The building blocks of Obedience
is the first two Core Values ng ating Church.
1. Passionate Love for God.
2. Love and Compassion for Others.

Tayong sumunod.
Bakit? We cannot fulfill excellently yung calling natin as a church without
really learning obedience. Ilang po ang population ng Salawag? Ano po
ang sabi sa Matthew 28:19-20. We are what 100 persons here 150. May
Dahil we fail to have an obedient heart.

IV. Application

a. Stick to what should be every believer’s priority – am I doing God’s

purpose in me and in my church?
b. Remember that a united church is a glorious church.
c. Humility is not weakness.
d. Do everything out of love.
