The Iliad

I. Introduction

A. Background of the novel

The Greek artist Homer was conceived at some point between the twelfth and
eighth hundreds of years BC, conceivably some place on the shoreline of Asia Minor.
He is celebrated for the epic sonnets The Iliad and The Odyssey, which have
enormously affected Western culture, yet almost no is thought about their supposed
creator.

The Iliad is written in the 8th century BCE, it is a tragic epic poem that composes
15,000 lines which organized by the scholars in 24 books of Alexandria. The Genre of
Iliad is historical because the story happens during the BCE. As you go through reading
the Iliad, you will notice that it has chapters or parts by parts. First book is Achilles is
Seriously Miffed. The second one is the Catalogue of Ships. The third one is The
Revenge of Menalaus. The fourth one is Zeus Decides Troy's Fate. The fifth one is
Apollo Repels Diomedes.

B. Short Summary:

Apollo delivers a plague on the Achaean armed force, at that point Agamenon
takes Briseis from Achilles. Zeus consents to rebuff the Achaeans for Achilles and after
that Mortals and Gods battle and are injured in the fight. Zeus forbids different Gods to
meddle in the war. With Zeus' assistance, hector gets through the Achaen ships. Hector
murders Patroclus in fight in this manner Achilles and the Gods come back to the
battling. The exceptional part that Achilles slaughters hector in a solitary battle. Priam
asks Achilles for Hector's body and Achilles returns Hector's body to Priam. In
conclusion, Hector is covered in Troy.

II. Analysis

A. Setting
The Novel Iliad happens in the tenth year of the Trojan War. 'The Iliad' is a story
ballad by Homer. It was expounded on 800 BCE, however the story is set a few
hundred years sooner, around 1250 BCE. The activity of the ballad is barely restricted
to three areas covering around 50 days.

B. Characterizations

The record of the Trojan War in the Iliad is neither anecdotal nor genuine; it's a
muthos 'legend'. Truly, these days, the term is utilized to indicate a bogus story,
however that wasn't the situation in those days; it alluded to a settled, oral and later
composed convention. It's incredibly troublesome and convoluted to recognize the
verifiable core, if there's any, from everything else fantasies, time misplacement,
abstract shows and so on. It's sure there was no Achilles, child of the goddess Thetisthe
Greek divinities are legendary. Notwithstanding, it's not by any means impossible that
an authentic individual named Achilles, or not did live sooner or later during the
Mycenaean time and was the beginning of the character.

They do have weaknesses even they are like Prince and Princess, as a proof, I
will be giving one character, which is King Priam. King Priam is the king of Troy and the
father of Hector and Paris and over fifty other children. He has many strengths, which
include empathy, love for his sons, courage, and a desire to protect his people. Those
strengths, in many cases, turn out to be some of his greatest weaknesses too.

C. Conflict

The Author develops the conflict by making a fight between Trojans and Greek.
The conflict make the characters to do evil things by killing themselves. It makes the
character suffer because of the conflict they made. Here is an example, Agamemnon’s
interest for Achilles' war prize, the lady Briseis, wounds Achilles' pride; Achilles' ensuing
refusal to battle makes the Achaeans endure enormously in their fight against the
Trojans.

D. Point of view

It helps me a lot in understanding the novel. The Iliad is told in the third person,
from an omniscient perspective. It's critical to take note of the storyteller is the Muse, not
the same as Homer, the artist.

E. Theme

Love and friendship, fate and free will, and honor are the main themes of
Homer's The Iliad. All three themes follow Achilles and the other main characters of the
epic poem. We see how Achilles' friendship with Patroclus and his hunger for honor
guides much of the epic, which lead to both his and Hector's demises.

III. Reflection

As the moment I read the novel Iliad, it is very interesting movie and kinda
touching story because of Hector, He sacrifice himself for the sake of people his people
to give peace in their place. The Story reflects me that, all the time we have to tough,
we have to be brave because we don't know where the challenges will come to our life
and we should be prepared to those challenges. Despite the fact that occasionally we
free want to confront the difficulties throughout our life however rather we have to
confide in our self and have a high confidence all together that we can get our fantasies
throughout everyday life. The character of Hector is one who I acknowledge most on the
grounds that he had not hesitant to kick the bucket for his people. Due to his story Iliad,
I understand that it is significant that we must be fearless and trust our self to confront
an amazing difficulties.

IV. Conclusion

After they read the novel Iliad, they should be aware to read the books of The
Odyssey, then watch the movie Troy, for them to understand the story of Iliad. I learned
a lot after reading the 245 pages of this novel, and I learned that I must have faith in
myself, I need to be brave no matter what problem that coming to my life. I strongly
recommend this to the people who loves to read novels, and it is very interesting to
read. I will recommend this book to high school students, because they are the one that
can really appreciate this beautiful story.
