1. Raja CHANDI CHARAN DEV RAI [Dev Rai], he became master of the
pargana of Mahmudshahi, he was awarded a khilat and the title of Raja in 1656
by Prince Shah Sujah, the Governor of Bengal, married and had issue, four sons.
He died shortly after 1656.

2. Raja INDRA NARAYAN DEV RAI 165x/-, he was a pious man who devoted

3. Raja SURYA NARAYAN DEV RAI, married and had issue, six sons. He died
1698 or 1685.

o Kumar Ghanshyam Dev, he received a small portion of the zamindari
(Taraf Kusabaria) as his share of the patrimony, and was ancestor of the

Belwari) as his share of the patrimony, and was ancestor of the Taluqdars
of Belwari, married and had issue.

village of Chhandra, about 26 kms south-east of

o Kumar Ramkrishna Dev, he received one village of the zamindari (Taraf
Benga) as his share of the patrimony, and was ancestor of the Taluqdars
of Benga.

4. Raja UDAY NARAYAN DEV RAI, Zamindar of Naldanga 1685/1698, fell into
debt due to his indolence and addiction to luxury, married and had issue. He was
stabbed to death in 1698 on the orders of Nawab Shaista Khan.
o Kumar Ramchandra Dev, he received a portion of the zamindari (Taraf
Joradah) for his maintenance, and was ancestor of the Taluqdars of
Joradah, married and had issue, three sons.
 Kumar Bhairabchandra Dev Rai, married Shrimati Maheshwari
Devi, and had issue.
 Kumar Fakirchand Dev Rai, married Shrimati Joydurga
Devi, and had adoptive issue.

Shrimati Haribala Devi, and had adoptive issue.

married Shrimati Hemangini Devi, and

5. Raja RAM DEV RAI, Zamindar of Naldanga 1698/1727, he was a man of


charitable disposition and presented many rent-free lands to the family gods, and
to virtuous men, irrespective of their caste and creed; married and had issue, two
sons. He died 1727.

6. Raja RAGHU DEV RAI, Zamindar of Naldanga 1727/1737 and 1740/1748, he


was liberal like his father but he was deprived of the zamindari for failing to
answer a summons from the Viceroy of Bengal, and Naldanga was given to the
zamindar of Natore (Raja Ramkanta Roy), but it was restored to him in 1740. He
died sp 1748.

7. Raja KRISHNA DEV RAI, Zamindar of Naldanga 1748/1773, married 1stly,


Rani Lakshmipriya Devi, married 2ndly, Rani Rajrajeshwari Devi, died 11th
October 1812, and had issue. He died 1773 (#3).
o Kumar Kalikaprasad Dev Rai (by Rani Lakshmipriya Debi), married and
had adoptive issue. He died vp.
 (A) Kumar Durgaprasad Dev Rai, he received Taraf Sanchani
for his maintenance and was ancestor of the Taluqdars of
Sanchani, married and had issue.
 Kumar Guruprasad Dev Rai, married Shrimati
Harasundari Devi, and had issue.
 Kumar Gopalprasad Dev Rai, married Shrimati
Nistarini Devi.
o Raja Mahendrachandra Dev Rai (by Rani Rajrajeshwari Debi), he
received the western division of the estate (two-fifths share) and was
known as Raja of Grada Paschim (western division), but was better
known as Bara Raja (senior Raja), he remained joint with his brother and
the shares were managed equally till 1796, after which they were
separate and each brother was Raja of his particular division; in 1796 his
share was sold and was bought by Babu Radhamohan Banerji; married
and had issue, two sons.
 Kumar Anandachandra Dev Rai, he and his brother brought a suit
against the purchaser of their father's share, and managed to
recover a seven anna share, which was sold in 1840 to the Babus
of Narail, who later purchased the remaining shares of this
portion, after which, the two sons lost their right to the title of
Raja, though they still retain it privately; married and had issue,
three sons.

He died 1869.
 Kumar Kamaleshchandra Dev Rai, married and
had issue, three daughters.
 Kumari (name unknown) Devi (second
daughter), married Babu Bijaychandra

o (A) Kumar Hara Dev Rai, he was adopted by Rani Lakshmipriya Devi,
he separated from his family and later he received Taraf Koolbaria for
his maintenance and was ancestor of the Taluqdars of Koolbaria,
married and had issue.

 Kumar Ramkanai Dev Rai, married Shrimati Harakali
Devi, and had issue, two daughters, as well as an adoptive
son.

Shrimati Bamasundari Devi, and had issue, three

o (A) Raja Gobinda Dev Rai, he was adopted by Rani Lakshmipriya Devi,
after his adoptive brother left the family; in 1773 he received one-fifth
share in the estate and he was known as Raja of Tinani (three annas), he
separated from the family at the same time; married and had issue.
 Raja Rajendrachandra Dev Rai, married and had issue.
 Raja Maheshchandra Dev Rai, the estate was sold in
order to meet the arrears as a result of over-assesment;
after which, the zamindar lost his title of Raja; married
and had issue.

8. Raja RAMSHANKAR DEV RAI, Zamindar of Naldanga 1796/1812, he


received the eastern division of the estate (two-fifths share) and was known as
Raja of Grada Poorba (eastern division), but was better known as Chhota Raja
(junior Raja); he remained joint with his brother and the shares were managed
equally till 1796, after which they were separate and each brother was Raja of
his particular division; married Rani Radhamani Devi, committed sati on or
about 7th November 1812, and had issue, as well as an adoptive daughter. He
died 7th November 1812.
o Kumar Mohanchand Dev Rai, married Rani Taramani Devi, born 1794,
died 1894 in Benares, and had issue. He died vp 24th October 1811.

Mukhurji, and had issue.

9. Raja SASHI BHUSHAN DEV RAI, Zamindar of Naldanga 1813/1834, born in


November or December 1811, the estate was made over to the minor Raja on 1st
January 1813, under the care of a guardian; after attaining his majority he
constructed many buildings and also purchased the 8 anna share of Sanchani,
Pratappur, Kanejpur and Kusabaria and the 4 and one eight share pargana of
Nasratshahi; married Rani Joydurga Devi, died 1837, she managed the state after
her husbands death until 1836, and had issue, as well as adoptive issue. He died
1834.

and had issue, three sons.

10. Raja INDU BHUSHAN DEV RAI, Zamindar of Naldanga 1853/1870, born
1834 or 1835, he was adopted in 1836 by the widow of the late Raja; educated at
Jessore Zila School, he was active in constructing, hospitals, schools, roads and
libraries; he established a charitable dispensary at his home for the benefit of his
people; during the mutiny in 1857 he provided a number of elephants for the use
of the British suthorities; he was confirmed in his title of Raja in 1860; married
1stly, Rani Madhumati Debi, died in December 1872, married 2ndly, Rani
Sukhadamayi Devi, died 1869, and had issue. He died in May 1870.

11. Raja Bahadur PRAMATHA BHUSHAN DEV RAI, Zamindar of Naldanga


1870/-, born 22nd December 1858 (#1), an accomplished zamindar, he was placed
in charge of the estate in December 1879 on attaining his majority; he was
granted the title of Raja as a personal distinction on 26th June 1885, later he was
granted the enhanced title of Raja Bahadur as a personal distinction, in January
1913; married in May 1873, Rani Patitpabani Devi, and had issue, two sons and
four daughters.
o Rajkumari Surasaibalini Devi, born 1878 in Calcutta, married 1889,
Babu Girindranath Mukhurji of Subarnapur, educated at the University
of Calcutta (Law), and had issue, four sons and one daughter.

o Kumar Mriganka Bhushan Dev Rai, born 1889, married 1906, a daughter
of Babu Panchanna Mukhopadhyay, First Class Honorary Magistrate,
second son of Rai Bahadur Radhikaprasanna Mukhurji C.I.E., and has
issue.

12. Raja PANNAGA BHUSHAN DEV RAI, Zamindar of Naldanga, born 1882,
married 1897, a daughter of the Raja Bahadur of Hetampur in Birbhum, and had
issue, three daughters.
