Work done:

In this week, I was shifted to the Investments department and was introduced to my supervisor
by Assistant Vice-President, SHAFIQUL ABDULLAH. After being introduced, my supervisor
asked me about my educational background and also enquired about what I had learned in the
past few weeks.

My main task was to read the documents which were printed out by my supervisor and get a
general idea about the investments department. If I had any problems understanding the
concepts, my supervisor helped me out.

Learning and achievement:

Investment means the act of deploying funds with the intention of earning profits. I learnt
about their investment department which provides capital and financial related services to
individuals, corporations or any other form of organizations. There are mainly four different
types of investment mechanisms which are Bai-Mechanism, Share Mechanism, Ijara
Mechanism and Investment Mix. The ideal types of Investment in an Islami Bank are Mudaraba
and Musharaka. Mudaraba means partnership business. The individual/institute who provides
capital is called ‘Shaheb-e-mal’ (financer) and the organizer of the business is called the
‘Mudarib’ (manager). The manager runs the business independently. If there is any loss, it is
borne by the financer and the profit of the business, if any, is shared between the financer and
manager as per pre-determined ratio. Mudaraba is of two types which are Mudaraba Mutlak
and Mudaraba Muqqayada. Whereas, Musharaka is a contract of partnership between the bank
and the client in which both the partners provide capital, participate in management, share the
profit as per agreement and bear the loss as per equity. Then I figured out all four types of
Musharaka which are Shirkat-al-Inan, Shirkat-al-Mufawada, Shirkat-al-Shanai and Shirkat-al-
Waduh.

Observation:
I observed over and over again that people over here are responsible to their work, they will
finish their assigned tasks no matter what happens. I feel happy that professional relationships
are now getting more important. When I am given more responsibility to work and undertake
more pressures, it feels like I am more valuable to the Bank.

Notable incidents:
I was having some difficulties regarding the numerous concepts of investment. However, I was
helped out by my supervisor and also by the other employees in the Investments department.
