Core paediatric capabilities, as defined in the RCPCH Progress+ Core Syllabus for Paediatric Training.
Additional guidance to help judge the standard required for Progress+ and Core training is found on the RCPCH webpages.
You will be required to provide a fully completed Certificate of Completion of Core Paediatric
Capabilities, if you DO NOT meet the following:

(Annual Review of Competence Progression) outcome (You will be required to provide evidence of this prior to
commencing an ST3 post).
B) You have already completed Level 11 training in an approved UK training programme and have evidence of satisfactory
ARCP outcome.2
A fully completed Certificate of Completion of Core Paediatric Training Capabilities must be provided at the time of
application. Failure to do so will result in your application being rejected.
Please note: “Certificate of Level 1 Training Paediatrics 2023 v.1” or other forms of evidence will not be considered.
N.B. You must also include confirmation of your Neonatal and General Paediatric experience, in the final applicant
confirmation section, at the end of this form.
Instructions to applicants:
1
Until August 2023, the UK Paediatric training pathway was defined by three levels: Level (ST1-ST3), Level 2 (ST4-ST5) and Level 3 (ST6-ST8).
From August 2023, the new Progress+ curriculum was introduced, and part of this change sees the pathway move to a two-level split: Core (ST1-
ST4) and Specialty (ST5-ST7).
2
If you have previously been released or removed from a UK approved paediatric training post/programme, you will be required to provide a fully
completed certificate of Core Paediatric Training capabilities from, in addition to a letter of support from the postgraduate dean for the deanery/LETB
from which you were released/removed.
3
For the purposes of the completion of this form, it will also be permissible to obtain confirmation from an Associate Specialist.
4
If you cannot demonstrate that you have achieved all your capabilities from one clinical post, you may submit additional Certificates to demonstrate
the full set of capabilities. If you cannot demonstrate every Key Capability as described in point 4 above, you will not be considered eligible for ST3
paediatric training.
5
Please ensure that the form has been successfully uploaded to Oriel, before submitting your application – applications without the full set of required
documents attached will not be accepted.
1
Please note that you must only confirm that the applicant has the capabilities listed below if you KNOW they are
competent. This may be from your own observations and from the evaluations and confirmations of other practitioners who
are sufficiently experienced (e.g., Consultants, Associate Specialists, Paediatric Specialty trainees at ST6+, or experienced
Advanced Nurse Practitioners) who you know have witnessed the applicant in practise.
Please also note that failure to complete the section about yourself fully will render the applicant ineligible to be considered
further for specialty training in this recruitment round.
