as the final stage of an
otherwise complete paper.
Otherwise it will tend to be
vague and/or incomplete.

It needs to be dense with


information but also readable, well-
organized, brief, and self-contained.

being submitted. It is for a
conference, journal, grant
agency, or is part of a thesis
or dissertation, it is narrative.
Generally there are some
guidelines for the specific
abstract to present.

abstract's context.

Reflects the purpose and
content of your paper.
Reports what it is in the
body of the paper.

Define all acronyms and
abbreviations.
Spell out names.
