THE BOOK
1708 pages and 19 chapters, divided into three volumes, is a
series of rich knowledge about Indonesian cities.

The book was compiled based on field studies, library research,


and reflections on various discussions in the last decade.
There are also translations of the original manuscripts from the
writings of M.H. Thamrin on villages, Soesilo on Kebayoran Baru,
Thomas Karsten, Talangtuwo inscription on public spaces,
Prapanca on Desawarnana/Negarakrtagama, and others.

Every purchase of the hardcover edition of this book will


subsidize fifteen softcover books to make them affordable,
especially for the general public and students.

More than seventy-three Indonesian cities are mentioned
throughout the book.

Twelve chapters in city names discuss the specific results


of each city and important issues of Indonesia's
urbanization.

Three chapters deal with specific topics, namely "Gardens,


"Parks and Squares", "Mosques" and "Homes: Kampung,
Kota".

Two chapters are titled the names of pioneers of Indonesian


urban planning: Herman Thomas Karsten and Muhammad
Soesilo.
