1(a) The guidelines followed during the construction and appreciation of a given artwork.

- They help to analyse the success or failure of a particular work of art produced in a
particular material.
- Means of communication – help in speaking a common language as we communicate

- Cultutral – cultural costumes and attires.

- Ritual/religious – burial, circumcision, initiation attires.

of artpiece.

4.(a) Double direct – modern version of direct method – the work is due directly onto a fiber
glass mesh with the tesserae face up. (2mks)

(b) Indirect method – the tesserae is placed on a temporary backing face down with the
intention of transferring the work to the final destination. (2mks)

(c) Double indirect – the tesserae is first put on a temporary backing face up. Then another
temporary backing is placed on top. Then the original backing is masdmad and then you
follow the procedure as in indirect method. (2mks)

- Avoid noise
- Respect each other’s work
- Avoid misuse of materials and tools in the art room
- Watch out for the health hazards associated with different materials e.g. toxic, sharp,
pointed edges etc.
- Keep the working environment clean and organized
- Avoid pouring water on the floor to avoid making it dirty, slippery etc.
- Avoid painting walls with colours and inks or touching walls with dirty hands/fingers
- Avoid dirtening the tables with the materials you use in the artwork.
- Incase of a lesson beyond the art room endeavor to bring back everything got out of
the art room.

6(a)

- A method of decoration in which pieces of fabric are applied, or sewn, fixed to


another fabric to create a pattern – it gives slightly raised patterns. (2mks)

(b)

- Patchwork is basically two – dimensional and involves the sewing together of pieces
of fabric cut to a definite shape. The shapes are usually geometric so that the joining
is easily done. (2mks)

(c)

- Quilting is a three dimensional technique. It consists of two layers of material caught


together by lines of stiching and padding soft material in between. (2mks)

7(a)

- A puppet is a figure or doll made to look like a person or an animal whose


movements are controlled by a person.
- It is an inanimate object that is manipulated so as to appear to be moving on its own
by moving the hand or by strings, wires or rods. (01 mark)

(b)

- Mariiounate – string puppets mainly operated from above.


- Body puppets – also known as carnival. These are very big puppets like these used for
street performances or large scale theatre.
- Sock puppet – this is a type where the hand is inserted inside a sock and the
movements are achieved by moving the hand up and down to give the impression of
speaking(communication).
- Shadow puppet – this is a type where the puppet and the puppeteer are not seen. The
shadow created by the manipulation is the own viewed by the audience on the screen.

- A panting tool is used for drawing with wax on a surface of a fabric.


- Newspaper are used in absorbing wax during the ironing process as the last stage of
batik production.

- Cut/get the cloth of the required size, wash, dry and iron it.
- Lay it on a flat surface and mark a grid
- Get ready/processed printing paste
- Lay the screen on top of the fabric
- Load printing paste on the squeegee and start printing following the grid point on the
fabric. Cover the whole fabric with prints
- Incase of using more than one colour, repeat the process for every colour.
- Wash the tools used in the whole process
- Allow the fabric to dry and iron it to fix the colours.

- Begin by digging a pit.


- Fill pots facing different directions
- Build up layers of saw dust, paper and dry wood around your pots.
- Light the time from top and allow to burn. (allow the pots to cool the same amount or
longer as the heating process)
- When the articles are cool, dig them up and c lean them.
