Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks, was an activist who want to stop the racial segregation in the
southern of United-States.

She is the daughter of James and Leona McCauley, was an afro-american


woman, born in february 4 of 1913, in Tuskegee, in Alabama, in the United-
States.

She was married to Raymond Parks in december 1932.

Rosa Louise McCauley Park is dead the october 24 of 2005, in Detroit, of a


health problem. She is in the Woodlawn cemetery. The president George W.
Bush make an homage to her. She had a public homage.

School :
She make school at home to 11 years old.

She go to a black girl school : the Montgomery Industrial School for Girl.

Then, Rosa go to an other school, for secondary studies : the Alabama State
Teachers College for Negroes.
She stops studies for help her mother and her grandmother, who had health
problems. But she finish in 1934.

Works :
From 1930 at 1955, she makes clothes, then she help people, and also she
clean house.

Rosa has work in the military base of Maxwell, in Iowa.

And she was secretary in an association : the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (the NAACP).

Activism :
Rosa Parks was an activist, from child, when her school (the Montgomery
Industrial School for Girl) was attacked by members of the KKK : they make fire
at the school 2 times.

She go to meetings of communist parti of USA. The only who don’t wants the
segregation.

In 1940, she enter to the « Montgomery Voters League » wo fight for give the
voting right to blacks people.

At the military base of Maxwell, she see a world without segregation.

In december 1943, she enter to the « American Right Movement » and the
« National Association for the Advancement of Colored People ».

In 1944, she take an investigation on a viol of a black woman by 7 white men.


She is called « the mother of the civil rights movement »
The september 1 of 1955, in Montgomery, Rosa Parks takes the car, drived by
James Blake, and refuses to give her place to a white people. She was arrested.

The next night, Martin Luther King and 50 others people create the
« Montgomery Improvement Association ».

During 381 days, blacks people boycott all bus of


Montgomery.

The november 1956, the segregation is decreted not


normal.

In 1992, Rosa Parks wrote a book where she said her


life : « My Story ».

« People always say that I didn’t give up my seat because I was tired, but that
isn’t true. I was not tired physically, or no more tired than I usually was at the
end of a working day. I was not old, although some people have an image of
me as being old then. I was 42. No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in. »

Rosa Parks is a very importante people, for the end of the segregation and the
equality.
