Summative Assessment Task - Stoichiometry (Criteria A)

(Friday-12-04-2024)

Pattern of questions will be based on the strands of Criteria A

i. outline scientific knowledge ii. apply scientific knowledge and understanding to solve problems
set in familiar situations and suggest solutions to problems set in unfamiliar situations iii.
interpret information to make scientifically supported judgments
Maximum Marks for the Assessment will be 24 marks
Time : 45 min
Platform : Pen-Paper
Important note : every student is supposed to carry own Calculator and required
stationary

Task Description:
You are tasked with designing a series of Stoichiometry problems to demonstrate your
understanding of fundamental concepts related to the mole, molar mass, and
stoichiometric calculations. Your task will involve multiple steps, including defining
moles, calculating molar mass, performing various interconversions involving moles,
masses, particles, and volumes, as well as balancing chemical equations and
calculating percentage composition.

Topics
Defining Mole and Calculating Molar Mass: Provide definitions of the mole and
molar mass and calculate the molar mass of given compounds.
 Interconversions:
● Convert between moles and mass for given substances.
● Convert between particles and moles for specified compounds.
● Convert between moles and volumes of gasses at standard temperature
and pressure (STP).
Balancing Equations: Balance chemical equations for given reactions involving
stoichiometric coefficients.
Percentage Composition: Calculate the percentage composition of elements in
compounds based on their molecular formulae.
Summative Assessment Task - Atmosphere (Criteria D)
(Tuesday-16-04-2024)
Pattern of questions will be based on the strands of Criteria D
Time : 40 min
Type of assessment : Role play

Criteria D from topic Atmosphere.

Title: Role-Play: Paris Agreement on Climate Change - Atmospheric Solutions

Objective:
Students will engage in a role-play simulation of the Paris Agreement negotiations,
focusing on addressing atmospheric changes and their implications for climate
change. Through this activity, they will apply scientific knowledge, evaluate proposed
solutions, use scientific language effectively, and document their sources of
information.

Materials Needed:
Background information on the Paris Agreement and atmospheric changes.
Role-play character sheets for different countries or stakeholder groups.
Research materials on atmospheric science.
Note-taking materials.

Procedure:

Introduction (10 minutes):

Brief overview of the Paris Agreement and its goals.
Explanation of the role-play focus: negotiating solutions for atmospheric changes
within the Paris Agreement framework.

Research and Preparation (15 minutes):

Students research their assigned roles' positions on atmospheric changes and climate
issues.
They gather scientific evidence to support their stance.
Role-Play Negotiation (20 minutes):
Facilitate a negotiation session where students discuss solutions to address
atmospheric changes.
Encourage the use of scientific language in their arguments and proposals.
Reflection and Documentation (10 minutes):

Debrief on the negotiation process and the role of science in decision-making.

Students document their information sources and insights gained from the role-play.
Conclusion (5 minutes):

Summarize key takeaways and emphasize the importance of science in climate action.
Encourage further exploration of atmospheric science.

Evaluation:

Assessment criteria-
students based on their application of scientific knowledge, effectiveness of scientific
language use, evaluation of proposed solutions, and documentation of information
sources.
Criteria D strands

i. summarize the ways in which science is applied and used to address a specific
problem or issue
ii. describe and summarize the various implications of using science and its
application in solving a
specific problem or issue
iii. apply scientific language effectively
